As more businesses open up, along with schools and colleges, there are still some hurdles many people need to get over when it comes to fears associated with COVID-19.Fox 17 spoke with Psychologist Dr. Lyndsay Volpe-Bertram from Spectrum Health about these fears."I don't think six or seven months ago any of us thought we'd be still in this current state," Dr. Volpe-Bertram explained, adding that the differences in the way people are handling the precautions is adding another layer of stress. "I think that range of reaction and behavior is also contributing to our overall stress because everybody is kind of taking a different approach to it."To address a balance, Dr. Volpe-Bertram recommends what's called "Ongoing Calculated Risk Assessment", similar to what many call risk vs. reward."We are looking at it as, 'Is this worth it to me?' Is what I'm going to get as a benefit back from having this experience or putting myself out there in some way, is that worth the possible exposure?", asked Dr. Volpe-Bertram.Essentially she recommends we be efficient and choosy in everything we do, even in socializing or explaining."Rather than saying, 'We have to say yes to everything'. Help us identify what are the most important events for us to be attending? Who are the most important people that we want to spend our time with?"Dr. Volpe-Bertram reminds, as the weather turns and flu season fast approaches, not to stress about it, but instead prepare for more mental well-being."It's important for us to start thinking about what our coping strategies are going to be in the Winter and how are we going to keep ourselves busy. Because we don't want people to stay holed-up in their houses, fearful of going out to places. As the holiday shopping season kicks off this week, the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about a new scam surrounding pricey gaming consoles.According to a news release, with the PlayStation 5 and other gaming devices in high demand, fake deals are appearing on the internet showing the systems at a reduced price.The scam reportedly works by showing a deal on a lesser-known website that has positive reviews, convincing customers to make a purchase via Paypal or another form of payment.According to the BBB, if you receive a package at all from the website or company, it won't be that coveted PS5 or Xbox Series X, but instead will be an item of little value."Since you technically received a shipment, you will be unable to contest the purchase with the third-party who processed the payment," the BBB said.One consumer who fell for a scam said they were unable to get in touch with the website they purchased their item from.“I attempted to reach out to the email address on their website, however I received an email informing me that it was not a valid email address. I then attempted to call the phone number listed on the website, [which gave me] an automatic message informing me that the number was not valid.”The BBB says to do these three things before buying a pricey console:Research the company you plan to purchase from thoroughly. It’s best to purchase items from sellers you already know and trust, but if you decide to purchase from an unfamiliar online store, do your homework first. Read as many customer reviews as you can find, look up the business on org, and do an online search with the company’s name followed by the word “scam” to see if you find any complaints. Make sure the company has legitimate customer service contact information (not just a form you have to fill out and hope for a response) and clear return and refund policies as well.Avoid impulse buying. Scammers like to draw people in with “flash sales” and “limited time offers” in hopes you will hand over your money on impulse. Resist the urge.Don’t believe prices that are too good to be true. Before you start shopping, find out the price of the gaming console at a major retailer. You can check prices online to get a general idea of what the console is selling for. Keep that price in mind as you shop and be wary of sellers who offer the product at a steeply discounted price. As our country works to rebound, companies are managing the pressure of keeping workplaces safe.Employers are taking precautions ahead of Thanksgiving with concerns about the coronavirus spreading over the holiday.Companies are doing everything from issuing memos, reminding workers about the public health guidance on gatherings and travel, to asking workers to sign pledges they'll keep gatherings small.But there are limits to how much say your boss has on what you're doing outside of work.“They are allowed to inquire about what their travel plans might be, what their off-duty conduct might be and they can ask employees to disclose that information,” said Christine Lamb, an employment attorney with Fortis Law Partners.Lamb says many states prevent employers from discriminating against workers who are doing things outside of work that are lawful.But if you aren't following policies your work put in place for COVID-19, they can ask you to go through some type of coaching or counseling.Lamb advises companies against checking in on their workers on social media.“You might have an employee who is at a gathering of 50 people and they're not posting anything on social media. The employer might not know what's going on and another employee that posts a photograph of them with 10 people on social media, there's just a risk of that unequal application of the rules,” said Lamb.She says one thing employers should be thinking about now is what does next week look like for the company post-Thanksgiving. That includes having a plan for people to work from home if that's possible.One drug maker told the Wall Street Journal that it's offering workers a paid 2-week quarantine if they need it after the holiday, where they'll be expected to work from home. 1773

Attorney General Bill Barr has accepted an invitation to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on July 28, according to a statement from Kerri Kupec, the Director of Communications at Justice Department.The House Judiciary Committee has been conducting oversight hearings regarding potential political interference from Trump administration officials in certain cases connected to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.Several media outlets reported this week that Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-New York, had been considering issuing a subpoena to Barr to force his testimony.House Democrats on the Judiciary Committee claim that Barr has intervened on President Donald Trump's behalf in numerous instances since he replaced Jeff Sessions as AG in February 2019.Over the weekend, Barr announced that Geoffrey Berman — who had been investigating Trump's financials in is role as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York — had resigned. Berman quickly refuted the claim, saying he had learned of his "resignation" in the media. At least 14 people were sent to the hospital Saturday after a storm knocked over concert entrance trusses at an Oklahoma outdoor concert venue hosting the Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees, a spokeswoman for the property owner said.The staff at the venue had begun evacuating fans after lightning was spotted, Kym Koch Thompson, a spokeswoman for WinStar World Casino and Resort, said.But about 150 people in line "did not heed staff's warnings."Thompson said the area was pounded by heavy rain and winds as strong as 80 mph. 530
