CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities have filed criminal charges against a mother accused of driving around barricades during a hurricane, resulting in the drowning death of her 1-year-old son.Union County Sheriff’s detectives say that Dazia Ideah Lee, 20, of Charlotte, drove around highway barricades and kept going east until her vehicle encountered rushing water flowing across the road during Hurricane Florence.Her car left the roadway and came to a rest among a group of trees where she managed to free herself and her 1-year-old son Kaiden Lee-Welch. However, she lost her grip on Kaiden in the rushing water.“The tragic death of this child and the circumstances surrounding this case are heartbreaking. We continue to pray for all those suffering as a result of this child’s death," Sheriff Eddie Cathey stated. "However, after a very thorough investigation and taking all facts into consideration and applying the law, we feel that these charges are appropriate.”Lee faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a closed/unopened highway in connection with the death of her son.She is due in court on November 20, 2018. 1192

California National Guard shows dozens of evacuees are evacuated to safety on a Cal Guard Chinook Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, after the Creek Fire in central California left them stranded. More than 200 people were airlifted to safety after a fast-moving wildfire trapped them in a popular camping area in California's Sierra National Forest. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - One of San Diego County’s most spectacular signs of spring, the Carlsbad Flower Fields, is blooming in an explosion of color that opens to the public in March. The rows of ranunculus, roses, orchards, sweet pea blossoms, and petunias are set on 50 acres with an ocean view east of Interstate 5. Visitors can tour the fields for photo opportunities or take part in one of dozens of special events. The admission price includes a sweet pea maze, theme gardens, and water wise farming exhibits. Tours and wagon rides are available for an additional fee. This year’s ticketed event lineup includes workouts like Flower Flow Yoga and Barre and Bloom, DIY classes including succulent gardens, basket weaving, painting, and flower arranging, concerts, and food truck days. California Democrat Mike Levin defeated Republican Diane Harkey by nearly 28,000 votes in a hotly contested race for a vacant US House seat, securing another blue vote for the new Democratically controlled House, CNN projects. CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. -- There were no survivors from a plane crash Thursday night in Carroll County, according to Indiana State Police. The Cessna 441 went down around 7:30 p.m. local time in a field near Carroll County Roads 500 West and 600 South, just north of Rossville.The plane took off from Eagle Creek Airport in Indianapolis at 7:21 p.m., according to flight records. It was headed to Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, Wisconsin.At 7:39 p.m., data shows that the plane was between 18,000 feet and 28,000 feet when it disappeared off radar, sources told Scripps station WRTV in Indianapolis. Shortly after, multiple people called 911 in Carroll County, reporting a plane down. People who live in the area who heard the crash say it sounded like thunder.First responders had trouble finding the wreckage at first because it was so dark and far back in a field. They eventually used ATVs and other off-road vehicles to access the area. WRTV learned that there were at least three people on board.There is no word on what caused the plane to go down. Officials with the FAA and NTSB are expected to arrive on the scene Friday morning to begin their investigation.  1275
