SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were shot Saturday evening while standing on a sidewalk in the Mountain View area of San Diego.It happened about 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of South 45th Street, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The two victims were standing on the sidewalk with others, Heims said. "A vehicle was eastbound on Newton Avenue when it stopped in the intersection and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group."A 44-year-old man was shot in the head and paramedics took him to a hospital, the officer said. "At this time, his injuries are non-life-threatening."A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and driven to a hospital by an unknown person, Heims said. His wound was not believed life-threatening.The car involved in the shooting was described as an early model small, light-colored sedan. 830

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 9-year-old San Diego girl is using her cookie business to help support other local businesses.The 9-year-old, named Daniele, wrote a letter to Kenny Chen, the owner of Onyx Moto in Kearny Mesa, proposing a way to increase business.Daniele is proposing that Chen use Girl Scout Cookies to sell more motorcycles.RELATED: Girl Scout sells more than 300 boxes of cookies at San Diego marijuana dispensary“You can give customers a box (of girl scout cookies) while they sign all those papers. They may even buy the second warranty,” the three-page letter reads.“You have customers and they get hungry. San Diego (KGTV) –  Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer Friday announced the expansion of his successful “Play All Day” initiative, a pledge to break ground on or upgrade 50 parks in five years, by adding an additional 15 parks to neighborhoods across the city.   The program was initially proposed during Mayor Kevin Faulconer's 2016 State of the City address and the initiative is a partnership between the City of San Diego and the San Diego Unified School District, designed to maximize public resources and increase the amount of city park space, especially in urban communities. The parks are used by the school system during the day and remain open to the community after school hours.  720

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As police ramp up their probe, an Otay Mesa dog owner believes his dog may also have been targeted by a pepper spray-wielding mail carrier.The owner of 9-year-old Roscoe didn't want identified, but he tells 10news about two months ago - moments after their mail carrier left - Roscoe started to twitch in pain, which lasted minutes. He say Roscoe was behind a gate and not a threat to the postal carrier. Hours later, the dog's eyes were still red. The dog's owner didn't report it, but says another neighbor complained about a similar occurrence. Both of their homes are just blocks from the Galindo home on Agosto Street."Makes me feel angry and so sad that he's causing so much pain," said Alfonso Galindo.Earlier this week, he spoke to 10news about the strange stains on his patio that prompted him to check his surveillance video. He watched the unbelievable unfold: a postal carrier appearing to hold pepper spray under the mail, as he walked by a metal gate. Behind the gate is his 7-year-old rescue Pupa. At the same time, Pupa begins convulsing for minutes."Sickening. It's scary how nonchalant he is. He's done this before," said Galindo.Galindo says he found nine similar incidents in the recordings on his hard drive, about a month's worth. The Postal Service issued an apology, saying the 'appropriate action' will be taken."That left me with a question. Is this person going to be retrained and put back on my route? That's not going to cut it," said Galindo.There are also more questions about the impact on his two young children, who are constantly touching and hugging Pupa. For months, they've suffered mysterious respiratory issues, requiring frequent trips to the hospital. On Wednesday, both were diagnosed with asthma. Galindo says more tests need to be done, but doctors believe the pepper spray could be the cause, and at the minimum, is an aggravating factor."I'm scared to find out where this could take my children. What he's doing is criminal," said Galindo.Galindo says several police detectives have interviewed him and collected evidence. A SDPD spokesperson tells us they are "actively investigating." 2164

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A group of Black student leaders from Poway Unified School District schools met last week with administrators, principals and counselors to discuss ways to address issues of racism and inequality in the district.The students are the presidents of the Black Student Unions at each of PUSD's five high schools.It was the first meeting since the student leaders sent an email asking to see changes in the district to improve the lives of students of color."Making PUSD not just not racist but transparently anti-racist," said Jade Thompson, president of the BSU at Rancho Bernardo High School.Thompason helped write the email, which also talked about the recently created Instagram account "Black in PUSD,” which anonymously details students' experiences with racism."We just think it was a great way to open up people's eyes cause people like to say not in this community," said Thompson.Superintendent Dr. Kim Phelps agrees, saying, "To hold people accountable, including the district and our teachers and everybody ... I'm proud of our students for doing that.”Phelps and Thompson both described the meeting as productive and positive.Among the issues discussed were student education and assemblies addressing racism. The district is also committing to more diverse hiring and curriculum."It's upon us to try to do better; we have a lot of work to do and we want to do better so it’s a growing and learning opportunity for all of us," said Phelps.The students and administrators also talked about the consequences for racism-related incidents.Students said they'd like to see a form of restorative justice instead of just punishment.Although both students and staff agree there's a lot more to be done, they also say the first step is recognizing the problem and starting the conversation."I have a lot of hope for the future of this year and the years to come," said Thompson. 1906
