Two people died in a small plane crash near New Orleans on Friday, including a TV news anchor.According to the City of New Orleans, the crash took place at 3 p.m. on Friday near the city's lakefront. New Orleans' fire department extinguished a small fire. The city confirmed that the FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.Nancy Parker, a reporter for New Orleans TV station WVUE, and the plane's pilot, were killed. WVUE said that Parker had been a reporter with the station for 23 years. WVUE reported that the plane was a 1983 Pitts S-2B, and had crashed a half mile from New Orleans International Airport. 623

There is one amusement park that's changing the way visitors experience a ride.Elitch Gardens amusement park in Colorado just opened their new ride called Kaleidescape, an art-focused ride. The park partnered with Santa Fe, New Mexico’s famous art installation Meow Wolf, which is known for an immersive, interactive experience. They wanted to bring that same focus to the ride.“It is very visually dense," describes artist Frankie Toan, who helped create the ride. "There’s lot of color, shapes, and lights, and all kinds of things going on.”Meow Wolf’s co-founder Matt King says audiences are given a chance to immerse themselves into fantastic realms of story and exploration."We create things that are very different than what Disney does, what Universal does," King says.The artists behind the ride enjoy that Elitch Gardens is a non-traditional art space.“It’s just such a fun place to work, because the rules of a gallery or museum don’t necessarily apply here," Toan says.Meow Wolf’s ride is changing the way people look and understand art.“Meow Wolf's great strengths is that they get people who maybe don’t normally go to see art, especially in a gallery or museum setting," Toan says. "They get to experience really contemporary, lively art in a non-traditional space.”Elitch Gardens hopes to make Kaleidescape a permanent ride. 1465

While giving remarks at the White House Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced his administration is lifting sanctions he imposed on Turkey after the country chose to attack the Kurds following a US retreat on the Turkish/Syrian border earlier this month.Trump said that he would re-imposed sanctions should Turkey choose to attack the Kurds or other religious minorities in the country. He added that a small amount of US troops would remain in Syria to protect oil reserves.Trump also said that the ISIS prisoners that had escaped following the Turkish attack on the Kurds had "largely been re-captured," but did not go into specifics. Trump did not respond to a question posed by reporters about members of the Trump administration's top envoy who made comments to the contrary.The ceasefire on the Turkish/Syrian border comes after Trump ordered American troops be removed from the area earlier this month. Their removal prompted a Turkish attack on the Kurds, an American ally in the region. Vibrant splashes of paint embellish the walls in an otherwise ordinary building.The Nipper family is putting the finishing touches on what they hope will become a safe haven for Las Vegas teens who may need a little help.“If some teen is feeling suicidal or just needs to talk to somebody, they don't have to be put on a waiting list,” says co-administrator Nicholas Nipper. “They don't they don't have to be postponed and put off because they don't have the right insurance.”When it opens, the non-profit ‘Kyler’s Kicks Lounge’ will provide a safe space for teens with access to mental healthcare professionals, therapeutic activities and important social resources. All of it will be free of cost.“It's not just mental health care. Kids will be able to come in here and get tutoring you know get food and learn valuable life skills that they won't learn in school,” says 14-year-old Kyler Nipper.The endeavor is the next step in healing for the teen. When he was just eleven, he survived being bullied and stabbed by a classmate over his school shoes.“I never really realized that your life could end at any moment,” says Kyler. “So, I want to make sure that you have made an impact that you made other people's lives amazing”For the last three years he’s given away shoes through his non-profit ‘Kyler’s Kicks.’ For him, it was a way to help cope with PTSD after the attack and at the same time doing something to help others.“He loves doing it,” says Kyler’s father Nicholas Nipper. “He loves helping people he loves giving. This is a new venture.”It’s a new venture that Kyler says he hopes will provide access to mental healthcare for countless others like him.“My parents had to be willing to sacrifice all the money that we have to get me to see a therapist and have mental health care. But hopefully this place will prevent that for all the other kids," Kyler Nipper said. 1894
