HONG KONG, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong people, including hundreds of volunteers, streamed into a downtown funeral house on Thursday to pay their last respects to the city's fallen hero, Wong Fuk-wing, a former volunteer who lost his life saving others in the April 14 earthquake in northwest China's Qinghai province."I will remember him for all the rest of my life," said nine- year-old Bai Ji, who was among one of those saved by Wong.A three-hour public memorial service began at 4 p.m. local time at a memorial hall of the Universal Funeral Parlor in Kowloon. He rescued four people before being hit -- three orphans and a teacher.A Zhou, a fellow social worker with Wong from the orphanage, burst into tears when he stepped into the memorial hall.All that Wong cared about in his last minutes was the safety of orphans, said A Zhou."We will bend over backward to take care of the orphans, which is also Ah Fuk's wish," the young man told Xinhua.

NEW DELHI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Saturday agreed that India and China should further their cooperation in all fields.During his meeting with Singh, Hui conveyed cordial greetings from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Singh. GUANGZHOU, April 18 (Xinhua) -- China's trade volume will reach 5.3 trillion U.S. dollars by the year 2020, Li Gang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce, said Sunday.Li made the remakes at the ongoing 107th China Import and Export Fair, the country's largest trade fair, held in the southern city of Guangzhou.According to Li, China's merchandise imports and exports will hit 4.3 trillion U.S. dollars in 2020.Merchandise exports will top other countries and be 2.4 trillion U.S. dollars in 2020, 10.1 percent of the world total.Imports will reach 1.9 trillion U.S. dollars and rank second largest, accounting for 8.2 percent of the world total.Weighed down by the global financial crisis, the nation's foreign trade recorded a 13.9 percent year-on-year decline to 2.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2009, with merchandise exports of 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars and imports of 1 trillion U.S. dollars.In the first quarter, foreign trade began to grow again, jumping 44.1 percent to 617.85 billion U.S. dollars, according to customs data.

BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to Brazil, Venezuela and Chile will be significant to furthering comprehensive development of China-Latin America relations, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday.Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang told a press briefing that Hu will pay a state visit to Brazil and attend the second summit of the BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China - in Brasilia from April 14 to 17, make a state visit to Venezuela from April 17 to 18 and a working visit to Chile on April 18."China and Latin American countries, all as developing countries, share extensive common interests. China has always attached great importance to its relations with these countries," Li said.China-Latin America relations have maintained a good momentum of comprehensive and sustained growth with increased political mutual trust, expansion of cooperation and more frequent cultural exchanges, he said.Hu's visit will be made at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Venezuelan President Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.Hu will hold talks with President Lula and meet other leaders on furthering China-Brazil ties and boosting cooperation on major global issues, Li saidThe two countries will ink a joint action plan from 2010 to 2014 and agreements in the fields of culture, energy, finance, science and technology as well as product quality inspection, he said. FUZHOU, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan has called for concrete measures to promote the construction of the economic zone on the western side of the Taiwan Strait.Wang made the remarks during his two-day inspection tour to the southeastern Fujian Province that ended Friday.Wang also asked local departments of commerce, customs, quality inspection, finance and tourism to make efforts to support the construction of the economic zone.During his visit to Pingtan Island, the fifth largest island in China, Wang inspected a bridge under construction that will connect the island with the mainland, as well as industrial development and the tourism industry on the island.Wang also visited the Wuyi Mountain and some tourist attractions in Fuzhou city, and urged a sound development of local tourism industry.
