TAIPEI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan-based groups called on the Kuomintang party to further cooperation and reconciliation with the mainland on Sunday.The call was made by Chi Hsing, chairwoman of the Alliance for the Reunification of China, at a dinner party attended by about 300 representatives from various social groups in Taiwan.She expressed hope that the Kuomintang could take the opportunity of the ever more frequent trade exchanges with the mainland and the overall amity between the two sides to seek further cooperation and reconciliation.She also expressed hope that the two sides could end the hostility so that people from both sides across the Taiwan Strait could share the glory of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Yok Mu-ming, chairman of the New Party, also delivered a speech at the gathering.The dinner party was held to celebrate three anniversaries which all fall in October, including National Day of the People's Republic of China, the 1911 Revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and the end of the Japanese rule over Taiwan on Oct. 25, 1945.

ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Saturday, kicking off his three-day official visit to Greece.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation Europe tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.During his stay, Premier Wen is due to meet Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Parliament Speaker Philippos Petsalnikos and hold talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou before witnessing the signing of a series of deals. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund," Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said earlier on Wen's Greece visit. Greece's sovereign debt crisis triggered fears of a domino effect across the eurozone earlier this year."We have noticed that the Greek government has adopted measures which have been effective. We hope Greece will recover soon from the difficulties," Fu said.Chinese Ambassador to Greece Luo Linquan said: "Once again, the premier will send a clear signal to the world that China will give a vote of confidence in the economic prospects of Greece and that China is taking practical action to assist Greece and the European Union in overcoming the crisis."The four-nation visit, lasting till Oct. 9, will also take Wen to Belgium, Italy and Turkey. BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. probe into Chinese clean energy policies, dubbed Section 301, will harm the United States itself by revealing more of its own subsidies to new energy businesses, Zhang Guobao, head of the National Energy Bureau, said Sunday evening.The U.S. Trade Representative's office started the investigation on Oct. 15 in response to the United Steelworkers Union's complaint on Sept. 9 that China's support for its renewable energy industries gave Chinese producers unfair edges over competitors."Chinese subsidies to new energies companies are very small, but the United States had subsidized the new energy enterprises with 4.6 billion U.S. dollars in cash in the first nine months of 2010, including 3 billion U.S. dollars to wind power enterprises," Zhang said.Zhang rejected charges that China's wind power bid prefers Chinese enterprises and has discriminated against foreign companies."China has no discriminatory items on new energy equipment producers," Zhang said.Many foreign wind power equipment producers participated in bidding in China and some won biddings from 2003 to 2005, Zhang said.But chances for them to win have been dropping as they offer prices much higher than the Chinese companies, Zhang said."In contrast to China's open attitude, the United States issued a bill in 2009 to subsidize renewable energies, energy efficiency and smart power grid sectors. Among the subsidies, 25.2 billion U.S. dollars went to the renewable energy sectors," Zhang said.The subsidized U.S. solar power sectors are required to use domestically made equipment in the six-month rule starting Aug. 16 in 2010, Zhang said."How much on earth has China exported new energy products to the United States?" Zhang asked."We have only exported three wind turbines to the United States, or less than 10,000 kw (of generating capacity). The U.S. General Electric Company, however, exported 80,000 kw of wind turbines to China in 2005 and the figure increased to about 340,000 kw in 2009," Zhang said, adding that its total wind turbine exports to China topped 1.13 million kw in the past five years."China's wind power (equipment) market stood at 85 billion yuan in 2009, about 21 percent of which was imported from overseas," Zhang said, adding that it showed China's wind power provided large opportunities for foreign producers to send exports to China.China and the United States should carry out dialogues in new energy sectors, Zhang said.The United States had proposed to communicate through video meetings on Oct. 12 with China on new energy products, but it also had been postponing the dialogue before declaring the probe on Oct. 15."I was very much astonished at it, wondering what the United States wants. Do they want fair trade, a normal dialogue or transparent information? ...Judging from the procedures, I believe (politicians of) the United States are more willing to get votes," Zhang said.In a statement Saturday, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) expressed "regret" over the U.S. probe on Chinese clean energy products and said China would defend its interests in the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules."The union's complaint is groundless and irresponsible" as both parties should act in line with the WTO rules, said an official with MOC's Bureau of Fair Trade for Imports and Exports in its statement.The statement said the United States was subsidizing up to 2,300 energy-related programs, including clean-energy projects.

NAIROBI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki met here Friday with chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature with both promising to make efforts to enhance bilateral ties.During the meeting, Chen expressed appreciation to President Kibaki and the Kenya government for the pivotal role they played in brokering peace in Sudan and the horn of Africa.Chen assured President Kibaki that China would provide the necessary support for peace and stability in the horn of Africa."Kenya, as a neighbor and the guarantor to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on Sudan, requires the support and not condemnation from the international community in her efforts to broker peace in Sudan," Chen said.The Chinese official also congratulated President Kibaki and other coalition government partners for the passage and promulgation of the country's new constitution.She thanked Kenya's support for the One-China policy.The two also exchanged views on enhancing Kenya-China cooperation under the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC).President Kibaki hailed the cordial bilateral and trade relations between the two countries which have continued to flourish through exchange visits at all levels.The Kenyan president particularly expressed gratitude to China for its immense contribution to the African country's infrastructure development over the past years.Kibaki noted with appreciation that China is today one of the leading bilateral donors to Kenya's infrastructure development with a cumulative official development assistance reaching 36.7 billion Shillings.China and Kenya have signed agreements and MOUs in various fields including technical and cultural cooperation, trade, education, health, energy, agriculture and cooperative development.
