Members of the Ottawa Senators were caught on camera slamming one of their coaches while they were in the Phoenix area to face the Arizona Coyotes last week, the Ottawa Sun reported Monday.During the video, Senators players made derogatory comments about an assistant coach during an Uber ride in the Valley. The conversation was being recorded, presumably by the Uber driver and without the knowledge of any of the players.Forward Matt Duchene, defenseman Chris Wideman, center Chris Tierney, defenseman Thomas Chabot, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, forward Colin White and forward Alex Formenton were in the vehicle during the conversation in question. He just commentates what’s happening," Wideman said.“Here’s the other thing, too. We don’t change anything, ever. So why do we even have a meeting? I haven’t paid attention in three weeks," Duchene said.In response to the video, the players seen in the video issued the following statement Monday night:"We want to apologize publicly to Marty Raymond, our teammates and coaches for our comments in Phoenix, Arizona on October 29. Our private conversation was recorded without our knowledge or consent. We're passionate about our team, and focusing on growing together. We are grateful for the support of our fans and organization. This is an important learning experience, and we will do better."In addition, Senators head coach Guy Boucher issued the following statement:"Nothing is more important to us during this rebuild than making sure our players and coaches are fully committed to our plan, our values and our system of play. We have every confidence in Marty Raymond's coaching; in the effort and determination of our team; and in the sincerity of our players' apology. We are now treating this as a team matter, and will be making no further comment to the media."The video was posted on YouTube and Twitter last weekend before being removed, but the Ottawa Citizen has since reposted the video. It appears the Uber driver may also be in some trouble, as Rob Khazzam, general manager of Uber Canada, said the following via Twitter on Monday evening:"A video was released by the media today of several Uber passengers being filmed without their consent while having a private discussion during a trip in Phoenix. This is a clear violation of our terms of service and we worked vigorously to investigate this issue. Filming or recording passengers without their consent is totally unacceptable and if reported / detected we will investigate + take action to preserve our communities privacy and integrity. (KGTV) - With Santa Ana winds in the forecast for Wednesday morning, Cal Fire stationed more than 500 firefighters in strategic spots to attack any hot spots that flared up in the Valley Fire burn area.The plan worked.Crews were able to recognize hot spot fires quickly and direct resources to fight them before early morning winds spread the flames across Lawson Valley.One flare-up started on a mountain peak just northeast of Loveland Reservoir. That area burned on Saturday, but Barona Fire Department Chief Ken Kremensky said embers stayed hot enough under the tree canopy to reignite Wednesday morning."The retardant coats the area," Kremensky explained. "But a lot of times in the heavier brush it lays along the top of the brush and it doesn't penetrate all the way the ground so there's hot stuff and it creeps in there. And once it creeps through the retardant, it gets into that open field starts to spread. If you get some wind on it and it picks up, you see the flame starting to show up."The fire was in a remote area that would take hand crews hours to reach. So, Cal Fire sent in a squad of helicopters.Helicopters from San Diego Gas & Electric, Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department took turns dousing the flames with water for nearly an hour, making multiple passes and filling up with water from the reservoir.After they left, military helicopters took over. By 11 a.m., the fire was mostly out."We'll just keep plugging away and hopefully the weather will cooperate with us and that'll be a good success," said Kremensky.Heavy winds never materialized, with gusts in the fire zone topping out at 30 miles an hour. Crews were able to handle several other hot spots that ignited and keep the flames within the fire perimeter.Kremensky said they were fortunate that the weather cooperated. 1862

Microsoft took legal steps to dismantle a system that has allowed criminal hackers to infect more than a million computing devices since 2016, in order to protect the 2020 election.The technology company obtained a court order from a federal judge in Virginia that gives Microsoft control of the Trickbot botnet.Microsoft, along with partners around the world, were able to make it so those operating Trickbot cannot initiate new infections or activate ransomware already in computer systems.Trickbot botnet is a global network believed to be run by Russian-speaking criminals, and is “one of the world’s most infamous botnets and prolific distributors of ransomware” according to a blog post by Tom Burt, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft.Burt says ransomware is “one of the largest threats to the upcoming elections,” and can be used to “infect a computer system used to maintain voter rolls or report on election-night results, seizing those systems at a prescribed hour optimised to sow chaos and distrust.”The move by Microsoft represents a “new legal approach” the company says they are using for the first time.In addition to protecting election systems, Microsoft says dismantling Trickbot will also protect financial services institutions, government agencies, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and other businesses subject to malware infections. 1382
