OSLO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 200 overseas Chinese in Norway demonstrated here on Friday to protest against the Nobel Committee's decision to confer this year's Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo, a convicted Chinese criminal.The organizers said the overseas Chinese, who joined the demonstration near Oslo city hall despite cold weather, were from 13 Chinese communities.The protestors held banners reading "Liu Xiaobo Is A Criminal!""No Meddling in China's Internal Affairs!" "Peace Prize = Political Tool!" NANJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China on Sunday started to extend a memorial wall to engrave more names of those massacred by Japanese aggressors more than 70 years ago in Nanjing.After extension, the "wailing wall", a part of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, will have 10,324 names on it, curator Zhu Chengshan said.The wall was engraved with 3,000 names when it was first built in 1995, and the list was expanded to more than 8,600 names in 2007 when the memorial reopened after a major repair and extension to mark the 70th anniversary of the massacre.The original wall was 43 meters long and 3.5 meters high. The extension will lengthen the wall by 26.5 meters, with 1,655 more names added to it, according to Zhu.Nanjing Massacre happened during World War II after Japanese troops occupied Nanjing, then capital of China, on Dec. 13, 1937. More than 300,000 Chinese were killed in the month-long atrocity.To collect the names of the victims is an important but tough job in the research of the massacre, as it is hard to seek witnesses and related documents decades after the holocaust, said Zhu.

LANZHOU, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Floods caused by torrential rains and tropical cyclones have left at least 3,222 people killed and 1,003 others missing across China in the first eleven months of this year, government statistics released Tuesday show."In 2010, China experienced the worst flooding casualties and damage since 1998," Water Resources Minister Chen Lei said during a national drought and flooding relief workshop held in the northwest city of Lanzhou.Further, the average accumulated rainfall across China this year has increased nearly 10 percent over levels recorded in previous years. In some areas, the figure shot up five times over that recorded in a usual year.Nearly 270 towns and cities were flooded, 437 rivers swelled with water and 111 of them broke past records, and thousands of dams faced dangers, Chen said.Floods also destroyed 2.27 million houses and damaged 17.87 million hectares of farmland, statistics show. The economic loss caused by this year's flooding has reached 374.5 billion yuan (56.74 million U.S. dollars), said officials.
