NEW YORK — Tropical Storm Fay battered the Northeast Friday, not only drenching the region but causing rip currents, flooding, and bringing with it dangerous winds that damaged vehicles and prompted power outages.The storm brought heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the day, causing Flash Flood Warnings and advisories across the region. Parts of New Jersey, New York City and Long Island experienced flooding in some neighborhoods.Periods of heavy downpours continued through the afternoon and evening hours.Despite the downpours, the storm weakened after making landfall Friday afternoon.The storm system was expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of rain, with the possibility of flash flooding in parts of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England. That’s down from earlier forecasts of about 3 to 5 inches of rain.The fast-moving storm developed late Thursday afternoon off the coast of North Carolina and made its way to the tri-state area by late Friday morning.Tropical Storm Warnings, and Flash Flood Warnings and Watches and Flood Advisories, were issued for New York City and the surrounding areas as Fay was expected to bring torrential downpours and gusty winds of 39 to 57 mph.A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until further notice.Fay is the first Tropical Storm Warning in the New York area in the month of July since Hurricane Bertha in 1996.Strong winds could cause tree limbs and other objects to fall, leading to power outages. Thousands of residents in New York and New Jersey have reported power outages across the state.Along the coast, Fay caused heavy surf, creating some beach erosion along coastal sections. The risk for dangerous rip currents will be high and swimming is not advised. Despite all these issues along the coast, the risk for a storm surge will be minimal.Conditions may improve as early as Saturday morning. The sun will break out and temperatures could approach 90 degrees. During the afternoon, a cold front will approach bringing the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms.It remains hot heading into Sunday with highs at around 90 again. NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Orlando Ortega posted a Facebook video of his now-former co-worker, Eileen Marcinkowski, calling him the N-word Sunday. The video has more than 150,000 views.But the owner of the restaurant where the incident took place said the video doesn't tell the whole story. “The lady in the video he actually did hit. She had blood on her face, she was bleeding," said Jane Thursfield, owner of Cactus Jack. Thursfield said Ortega provoked the fight when he punched Marcinkowski in the face after he was let go by the restaurant. Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers could see no evidence of blood on Marcinkowski's face in the Facebook video. The owner said even if Marcinkowski was provoked, the racial comments were not OK. “No, no, of course not," Thursfield said. "No, we don’t condone that at all.”Other customers, like Johnny Samz, who said he regularly eats at Cactus Jack, agreed. “I don’t think it’s ever good, for anybody to use the N-word," said Samz. "I don’t care what the circumstances are.” WFTX's Jasmine Minor asked since Ortego no longer worked at the restaurant, if Marcinkowski would face the same fate. “She is still working here, yeah," said Thursfield. "I have not been here long and she’s working, but we will obviously address that.” The owner said the incident took place "off-the-clock" and "off business property." She still plans on addressing the issue with her entire staff. New York State has issued guidance on professional sports competitions as part of Phase Four of the New York Forward program.The state says professional sports can resume in the state, but with no fans."Ensure that no live audience, fans, or spectators are allowed to attend or permitted to enter any professional sports venue, even if an outdoor venue. NEW YORK, N.Y. - There is no secret ingredient at Enoteca Maria on Hyatt Street in Staten Island.But someone special is always in the kitchen. The restaurant closed its dining room with the rest of the city in mid-March.It seats about three dozen people in the St. George section of Staten Island. Since opening in 2007, it has featured a rotating special menu prepared by the women along with an Italian menu.It’s known as the Nonna Project, which is Italian for “grandma.”To create a revenue stream and protect the health of the grandmothers and staff, they have not reopened.The women head to the kitchen one at a time to make batches of sauce to sell on the restaurant website.Rosa Correa will share her recipe for her delicious sauce from Peru.
