She was born in Hungary and her family tried twice to escape.The first time, when she was two, she woke up and started crying, causing them to get caught. She said everything was taken from them. Gibboney said the second time they escaped, an aunt drugged her so she would sleep through the escape.They lived in Brazil for more than a decade and came to the U.S. via her father's Green Card. "My heart goes out to them, but this is not how you do it, because if you do have a legitimate refugee issue, you go to the port of entry, you go to the embassy in your state in your country," she said.Her feelings on border security solidified in 2002, when her son was shot and killed by a man she calls a coward, gangster and undocumented. "He was going to shoot my son's friend in the back, because they got into fights and he wanted to get even," she said the bullet was not meant for her son, a father of two.The pain she says, has never gone away, "my world.... my world just collapsed."She believes all immigrants must be vetted to protect our nation. Once you plug in your location, the new option will pop up on the bottom far left of your screen.A quick trial test of Express Pool found the service to be a dollar cheaper than Uber Pool. However, you'll have to walk a block or two to be picked up by your driver.The logic behind the new service is to help Uber drivers be able to drive in a straight line to pick up pool passengers. That way, there are no out-of-the-way stops.However, it could mean for a slower pickup time. Also, with any Pool ride from Uber, you will most likely share the ride with other riders.Despite walking out of the way and waiting a bit longer, a test of Express Pool still got riders to their destinations on time.  894

There is a good chance this pandemic is having you go to the gas station less often. Fewer trips to the store, after all, means fewer fill-ups.While that may be good for your wallet, it's bad news for governments who rely on gas taxes to fund transportation construction projects. THE ISSUEFor every gallon of gas you buy, 18 cents goes to the federal government and the Highway Trust Fund. That money is then used to pay for transportation projects around the country. Additionally, each state imposes their own gas tax which can range from 14 cents to 57 cents per gallon of fuel. States use that money to fund transportation projects of their own. Simple economics suggest that when Americans drive less, there will be a loss in revenue for states. States are also losing money with sales taxes, tolls and DMV registrations, which is making a problem even worse. WHAT'S BEING CANCELED"The state is collecting less of that money," Alison Black, Chief Economist with the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, said. Black's organization has been tracking which states are cutting projects.Currently, 14 states have announced project delays or cancellations, valued at nearly .5 billion. These include Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia. There are 19 local governments and authorities that have announced project delays or cancellations, totally more than .54 billion. Ten states or local areas have vetoed, canceled, or postponed legislative initiatives or ballot measures related to transportation funding because of the pandemic. There are currently only a few treatments in helping to fight COVID-19, and one is antibodies from a Coronavirus survivor. But gay men wanting to donate are being faced with hurdles.A donation ban started with a 1980s restriction in the height of the AIDS and HIV crisis when the federal government created a lifetime ban on blood donations from gay men.The rule was replaced in 2015 with a regulation that requires a year of abstinence to donate blood.In April of this year, the FDA revised the abstinence period for gay men to donate blood or plasma from 12 months to three months in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.Chris Sanders with the Tennessee Equality Project says this is a start but these guidelines are not created equal."My call to action would be that the Congress of the United States will hold hearings on this rule and put pressure on the FDA to make this change," said Sanders.As the American Red Cross is pushing for more COVID-19 survivors to donate their antibodies to help sick patients, Sanders says some who are willing to help are being turned away."I talked to a gay man in East Nashville today who has survived COVID-19, and I asked him if the ban weren’t in place would you consider plasma donation and he said he would," said Sanders, "There are potential donors in Tennessee who would get turned away because of this unscientific, outdated FDA rule."Gay rights advocates say if this country wants to save more lives it will review what they call outdated policies.This story was originally reported by Kelsey Gibbs at WTVF. 1565

According to the American Psychological Association, two in three adults say this election has been a major source of worry. Now health experts say that stress could also affect our children.Child and adult psychiatrist Dr. Judith Joseph has some advice for parents to help manage their children's anxiety during this time of unrest.She says it starts with communication. When there's a lot of stress in the environment, Dr. Joseph says that also cause the cortisol levels to also go up causing you to lose focus. It's important to talk to your children to find out how they're feeling.Next, use the election as a teaching moment and reassure them they are safe no matter the outcome. Create a project that involves kids learning about the voting process and how government works. Also, limit news exposure. Getting too much screen time can only lead to more anxiety.Furthermore, while creating a large change may be a bit of a stretch, Dr. Joseph urges parents to be honest about what’s happening in the world and focus on empowering our youth by allowing them to give back locally.Finally, encourage kids to keep a journal.
