(KGTV) -- A South Bay woman is mourning the death from COVID-19 of her boyfriend and her 'second chance' at love.Derik Williams started feeling sick in early July."Felt very fatigued, no cough," said Carol Althoff.Five days later, Althoff, his girlfriend of four years, brought him to the ER."Outside, they took his temperature and it was 101°.Williams was admitted and put on a sleep apnea CPAP device to help him breathe. A few days later, she got a call."He called home and he was his old self. 'Hi, babe, how are you?'" said Althoff.She was expecting a call the next day about him coming home.Instead, a doctor called about Williams needing to be placed on a ventilator. She talked to Willliams on the phone."We cried together. We said our 'I love you.' It was extremely emotional," said Althoff.A few days later, William - a father of 4 and a grandfather - passed away, days before his 55th birthday. Althoff, whose first husband died of cancer, says she didn't think she would find love again until she met Williams a few years later."Derek was loving. He was happy and so giving," said Althoff.She says the Air Force veteran was always volunteering, whether it was for The Rock Church, Stand Down, or soup kitchens."It was part of who he was. He wanted to be a better person, better than the person he was yesterday," said Althoff.As for where the coronavirus came from, Althoff isn't sure. She says Williams was diligent about masks and mostly went to the grocery store and his work, an aerospace company where he worked as a forklift operator. Althoff is making an urgent plea to COVID-19 seriously."Please, wear your mask. If not for you, then for the person you may be encounter," said Althoff.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with expenses.Williams did suffer from underlying conditions, including a heart condition and diabetes.The Rock Church issued the following statement:"We are deeply saddened at the loss of Derik Williams. He has been a faithful volunteer at the Rock Church for over five years. From serving on our hospitality team to greeting guests Derik was known for his infectious smile, joyful spirit and desire to help others know Christ. We are praying for his family and friends during this time that God might comfort them during their loss.This past Sunday, the Hospitality Volunteer team had a memorial service to honor Derik Williams' life via Zoom. As people shared their thoughts and memories of Derik, one thing was clear Derik had a huge heart in being intentional about checking in on his friends/team members. (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County couple said they were promised plane tickets for an extremely low price, but when they paid up, they were left with nothing. Robert, who declined to use his last name, loves to travel with his fiancé. In October, he said they got an invitation in the mail to listen to a timeshare presentation.“If you [go], you’re offered one of several gifts—a cruise, a TV, an iPad, and so forth,” Robert said.They decided to check it out, although they knew they just wanted the gift. He said after the presentation, the couple declined the timeshare, but they were entered into a raffle in which they received the cruise with two airline tickets.Robert was only interested in the plane tickets, so they filled out the required paperwork and paid the fee attached to the prize. “It’ll charge you for the both of you, for both of your tickets,” he said.PDF: Read correspondence between Team 10 and My Ultimate Getaway Robert mailed the money with the forms and waited. Instead of receiving tickets, Robert said he instead got more paperwork to enter another program. “You have to sign up [on] a website and then you have to pay to get discounted tickets,” Robert said. “We’re like, what’s going on? These are not free tickets.”The return address on the envelope he received came from “My Ultimate Getaway.” According to the pamphlet, it said: “In order to keep your promotional vacation reserved for a full year, you must register and submit your vacation request for online.” It also asked for a “booking fee of .95.”Robert told Team 10 there was no mention of signing up for a program to get these plane tickets and said “100 percent” they were told it was free.The couple felt misled. They complained to the Better Business Bureau out of Virginia where My Ultimate Getaway has a listed address. Team 10 spoke to another woman from Kansas who said she also gave money with the promise of plane tickets.“We wrote the check for to this Getaway place September the 14th,” said Kathy, who did not want to use her last name. Instead of plane tickets, she “finally got something in the mail. They wanted more money.” BBB records show the man behind My Ultimate Getaway and another similar business called Hot Promotional Vacations out of Maryland is Charles Colvin, also known as Charles Colvin Lemley. A search of state records found Charles Lemley listed as president of My Ultimate Getaway and owner of Hot Promotional Vacations. Robert said he emailed Colvin and showed Team 10 an email where he responded “he would be refunded as soon as possible.” That was mid-January. “We’ve been patient,” Robert said. When Team 10 questioned Colvin regarding My Ultimate Getaway, he responded via email: “We provide gift incentives to companies to market their products or services, nothing more.” He blamed the companies for giving “a false impression that these gifts are free.”When pressed on who the companies are and why he is doing business with them if they are giving a “false impression” to customers, he did not answer that question.Colvin told Team 10 in an email on February 20th that he processed the refund and the couple would “receive it in a couple of days.” After Team 10 got involved, Robert said they received their refund Feb. 26. Robert regrets opening that first piece of mail and hopes to stop others from making his mistake. “If you promise something, please give the customer what they want,” he said. “They get nothing in return except headaches.”The Better Business Bureau suggests when dealing with vacation or travel: Be wary of “great deals” and low- priced offers. Be suspicious of companies that require you to wait at least 60 days before taking your trip. Ask detailed questions. Get all information in writing before you agree to buy. Don’t give your credit card number or bank information over the phone unless you have confidence in the company you are dealing with. Don’t send money by messenger or overnight mail. Check out a company with the Better Business Bureau before you buy. Don’t be pressured into buying. If in doubt, say “NO.” 4107

Gavin Newsom has reversed parole for Charles Mason follow Leslie Van Houten, the fourth time a governor has stopped her release from prison.Newsom said Friday that Van Houten still poses a danger if released from prison.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for her part in helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Van Houten was 19 years old at the time of the murders.Newsom has stopped her release once before, while former Governor Jerry Brown blocked it twice.Van Houten's attorney plans to appeal Newsom's decision.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 654

Denver ranked 37th on the list followed by San Francisco at 48th, Seattle-Tacoma at 57th and Los Angeles 71st. Denver, the highest rated airport in the U.S., was ranked 37th Unfortunately for America’s Finest City, the San Diego International Airport didn’t make the list. All three of the world’s top airports are located in Asia. The Singapore Changi airport took home the list’s top spot for the seventh year in a row followed by Tokyo Haneda and Seoul Incheon. The Singapore Changi Airport connects to more than 200 destinations around the world. In 2017, the airport served 60 million passengers from nearly 100 countries. According to its website, the World Airport awards began in 1999 when Skytrax launched its first global airport satisfaction survey. The goal of the survey is for customers to "make their own, personal choices as to which airport they consider to be the best." Airports are ranked on the list based on a a survey taken by travelers around the world. Skytrax is regarded as a benchmark for the world airport industry.
