One of the fiercest rivalries in sport -- the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox -- is on the move and heading to London as Major League Baseball flies across the Atlantic to broaden its global reach.MLB announced Tuesday that the Yankees and Red Sox will play two regular-season games at the London Stadium -- which played host to the athletics and opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics -- on June 29 and 30, 2019.The Red Sox will be the home team for the two-game series, the first MLB games to be played in Europe.But it will not be the first time regular-season MLB matches will have been played outside the US, with ties already having been staged in Mexico, Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia.It has already been announced that Oakland and Seattle will play next season's opener at the Tokyo Dome on March 20-21.As part of the two-year deal another series will be played in London in 2020. OAKLAND, Calif. — A bust of Breonna Taylor was vandalized in Oakland, California.The Oakland Police Department is investigating after large pieces of the statue were found broken off sometime over the weekend, KGO and KTVU report.The sculpture was made by artist Lee Carson to honor the 26-year-old EMT who was shot and killed in her apartment by Louisville police officers in March. The deaths of Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery prompted countless people across the country to take to the streets over the summer to protest police violence against people of color.Carson told KTVU that he hoped the piece would energize the Black Lives Matter movement, which seeks to eradicate white supremacy and intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities.Carson told KGO that the vandalism felt like an attack on Taylor and those fighting against racial injustice.The statue is made of clay, concrete, wood and foam, and was reportedly installed in the downtown area this month. Along with a bust of Taylor, it includes the words “say her name Breonna Taylor,” which has become a rallying cry.Carson told KGO that he intends to repair the statue as soon as possible and he may cast it in bronze this time. 1217

OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) — The regional shutdown of many business sectors begins Sunday at 11:59 p.m., leaving thousands of people jobless in the middle of the holiday season.Donald Murray is a regular customer at Copperwood Barber Shop in Oceanside."[I get the] 'High and tight' I guess is what they call it," Murray laughed. "Low maintenance."Brothers Allen and Sherman Morris opened the shop in 1988, serving thousands of customers simple cuts. But this year, business has been anything but simple."We don't understand why they keep shutting us down," barber Adriana Hinojosa sighed.Hinojosa says since the pandemic began in March, customer numbers dipped under 50%. Owner Sherman Morris has not been into his shop due to health risks."We don't want him to get sick," Hinojosa said.The old school shop made adjustments with every new restriction, serving customers in every other chair, buying sanitation goods, and even going outside for a few weeks."This summer, it was hot, we were sweating, the customers were sweating, so it was kind of hard," Hinojosa said.But once again, they must shut their doors completely. ODESSA, Texas (KGSTV) - A man with San Diego ties who survived the Texas shooting rampage Saturday is recounting the moment he drove into the crosshairs.Daniel Munoz, 28, moved from San Diego to Texas a year ago to work in the oil industry. He was in his car on the way to meet a friend for a drink, when he yielded to a car coming off an interstate. He immediately saw what appeared to be a rifle barrel in the hands of a driver and the shooter, Seth Ator.Earlier, the shooting spree had started with a routine traffic stop, when Ator suddenly started shooting at officers. During the ensuing chase in the Odessa/Midland area, he shot at other drivers. One of those drivers was Munoz. After he saw the rifle barrel, he told the Associated Press, "This is my street instincts. When a car is approaching you and you see a gun of any type, just get down. Luckily I got down … sure enough, I hear the shots go off. He let off at least three shots on me."Munoz believes one shot hit the engine, another struck the driver's side window, and a third hit a rear window. Some shattered glass punctured his left shoulder, causing him to bleed heavily. As he made the frenzied drive to a hospital, the shooting rampage continued.The gunman would hijack a mail truck, before ramming police vehicles outside a theater, where police would shoot and kill him. In the end, Ator would kill seven and injure 22. As for Munoz, he says he's physically okay but shaken."I'm just trying to turn the corner and I got shot. I'm getting shot at? What's the world coming to? For real? I'm just minding my own business," he told the Associated Press.Officials have identified another man, 62-year-old San Diegan, Marco Corral, as among the injured. 1731
