LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lawyers for a church with more than 160 congregations across California say they will seek an immediate court order allowing indoor worship after the Supreme Court told a lower federal court to reexamine state coronavirus restrictions on church services. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Even as coronavirus cases rise across California, hundreds of people gathered at the beach in Orange County for a religious event. The Los Angeles Times reports Sunday that several hundred people met in Huntington Beach on Friday for a weekly worship event that has been held since early July. Organizers provided hand sanitizers and masks, but many participants didn’t wear them. Police cited an organizer over allegedly promoting the event without a permit. California has been struggling with a rise in virus cases, and Gov. A third installment of the “Sister Act” franchise is officially in the works.Disney confirmed Thursday evening that “Sister Act 3” is in development, with Whoopi Goldberg set to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier.The entertainment company said the film will premiere on Disney+, but didn’t provide a target release date.Along with starring in the film, “The View” co-host will produce it as well, alongside Tyler Perry. The two have worked together before, most recently in 2018’s "Nobody’s Fool” with Tiffany Haddish.Goldberg has been trying to get “Sister Act 3” made for some time now. LOS ANGELES (AP) — California’s death count from the coronavirus has surpassed 15,000 even as the state saw widespread improvement in infection levels. A tally by Johns Hopkins University put California’s death toll at 15,026 on Sunday, the fourth highest in the country. New York has suffered by far the most deaths -- 33,081 -- followed New Jersey, which has about half as many. Texas is third. California has had the most confirmed virus cases in the country with about 775,000 but key indicators have fallen dramatically since a spike that started after Memorial Day weekend prompted statewide shutdowns of businesses. 630
