SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A car crashed through a parking garage wall and dangled from a building Friday night.Emergency crews responded to the Harbor Club parking structure before 7 p.m.Firefighters say the driver of the White Lexus was a woman in her sixties. They say her foot got stuck under the brake pedal and she was unable to stop.Shortly after the accident authorities were able to pull the car back into the building. The driver was not hurt.A structural engineer was called to the scene and is assessing the damage to the building. 558

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family from Chula Vista is desperately looking for their 9-year-old loved one. Erik Ochoa was swept away by the current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday. Ochoa lives in Tijuana with his father. His sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista. The boy was with two other children walking along the beach in Rosarito when they were swept away. One boy made it out of the current and ran to get an adult nearby. The third child washed ashore, lifeless, 25-minutes after going missing. Erik hasn't been seen since. The sisters have been looking for their brother since they heard about what happened. They've been going from Imperial Beach all the way down to Border Field State Park.The Mexican Navy is actively searching on the Mexican side. The U.S. Coast Guard broadcast a message to boaters telling them to be on the lookout. Erik was last seen wearing green shorts and a striped shirt. The family tells 10News the Mexican Navy will search until Sunday.  1008

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Thousands of women nationwide are expected to participate in a series pre-election demonstrations today, including one at San Diego's Balboa Park, focusing on women's reproductive issues, getting out the vote and protesting the Trump Administration's efforts to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A number of virtual events, voter registration drives, phone banking efforts and text messaging campaigns are also planned.``There are over 400 being planned around the country and Pasadena is one of them,'' organizer Jenna Karvunidis, who is co-hosting a march outside Pasadena City Hall, told the Pasadena Now website. ``This march particularly has to do with not confirming the new Supreme Court justice until after the election.''``It was Ginsburg's dying wish to not be replaced until after the election, and I think that we should honor that.''Women's Marches have been held regularly since Jan. 21, 2017, the day after President Donald Trump was sworn into office, in one of the largest public demonstrations in U.S. history.Today's gatherings are the second under the Women's March banner this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 10News is learning more about how suspected Poway shooter John Earnest got the weapon. On Thursday, investigators revealed that they believe he got his rifle from a licensed dealer.In federal documents released on Thursday, prosecutors report, “The firearm was manufactured by Smith & Wesson in Princeton, Illinois and shipped to Springfield, Massachusetts where it was assembled. The firearm was ultimately transferred, via Fort Worth, Texas, to a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) Dealer in San Diego, California, which sold the firearm to Earnest. Earnest picked up the rifle on April 26, 2019.”That was the day before the shooting.In a press conference on Thursday, Southern District of California U.S. Attorney Shane Harrigan told reporters, “I can say that there is no allegation that the defendant violated federal law when he acquired the rifle that he used in the violent attack on the synagogue.”Questions still remain as to whether state law was violated. Earnest is only 19 years-old.California law requires that adults be over 21 years-old before they can buy a firearm, unless they have a hunting license, are current or former military, or are in law enforcement.Prosecutors wouldn't comment on whether Earnest had a hunting license. “That allegation isn't in the complaint but please understand that as the criminal process moves forward, more information may be available to the public,” added Harrigan.District Attorney Summer Stephan originally said that the rifle had been obtained legally, but when pressed on Wednesday by 10News, she didn't provide a clear answer. “I don't want to [comment any further] because it's a pending case,” she said.At Thursday’s press conference, a reporter asked the federal prosecution about when Earnest purchased his 60 rounds of ammunition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A coalition of some of San Diego's biggest business and labor groups wants the city to enact Measure C, the hotel-tax increase that did not generate the necessary support during the March primary.The measure would have raised the city's hotel tax by as much as 3.25% to pay for expanding the convention center, adding services for the homeless, and funding road repair. The measure failed to get the two-thirds vote California law requires for many tax increases. "Sixty-five percent of the people voted for it, that's an overwhelming majority of the voters," said Betsy Brennan, CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership, a member of the coalition. "To me that speaks to the need and the desire for people to want to support this measure."The measure may, however, have new life. Two recent court cases involving Upland and San Francisco are giving supporters hope that Measure C can be enacted with a 50-percent plus one majority. It's because Measure C was a citizens' initiative, and there is now a legal precedent that tax increases that got to the ballot through signature drives can pass with a simple majority. “Measure C was overwhelmingly supported by San Diego voters in March, and we believe the will of the people — both the voters and the citizens who placed Measure C on the ballot — should be enacted," said a statement from the coalition, attributed to executives from the Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Authority and San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. "Reducing homelessness, repairing roads and investing in our local economy are just as important as it was in March, if not more so. We believe in this cause and will continue to pursue Measure C’s implementation.”The coalition says it will continue to pursue Measure C's implementation. That could involve suing the city over the measure. The City Council itself could take action but discussed it behind closed doors last week without taking any action. Others, however, say enacting Measure C would send the wrong message to voters, who entered the polls March 3 understanding the proposition needs a two-thirds vote. "There are people out there who say my vote doesn't matter. Changing the goalposts after the election would prove that to be true," said Christopher Rice Wilson, associate director at Alliance San Diego, a community empowerment organization that did not take a position on Measure C. The final vote on Measure C was 239,024 in favor, versus 127,349 opposed. 2487
