SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As the nation continues to process what happened during the first presidential debate, many are expressing frustration about what didn’t happen.Local and national Latino American leaders are calling out the moderator and the candidates for making no mention of the millions of Latinos in the country.Just moments after the debate ended Tuesday night, organizations like the National Association of Hispanic Journalists shared a series of tweets highlighting that Latinos were not mentioned during the debate.According to the Pew Research Center, more than 32 million Latino voters are eligible to vote in November.Voters like Denisse Roldan Newell wanted to hear more from both candidates about their policies on a range of issues.“It's not just immigration, it's not just the border wall, it's having to do with economics, with smalls business development, with affordable health care, with education,” said Roldan Newell.Roberto Alcantar with the Chicano Federation told ABC 10News it was concerning that the candidates made no mention about COVID-19 and it’s disproportionate affect on the Latino community.In San Diego, Latinos make up 34% of the population but 65% of COVID-19 cases."These are not just Latino issues, these are issues for all of us as American. While, yes, we are Latinos, we are American and our issues are America’s issues," said Alcantar. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Awaken Church continues to hold indoors services, despite orders from San Diego County to close all indoor religious services due to COVID-19 restrictions.According to the San Diego County website, three of the Awaken Church locations have received cease and desist orders. The location at 7620 Balboa Ave. received a cease and desist order July 17, 2020; the Carlsbad location received one Nov. 16, 2020; and the Chula Vista location received one Nov. 19, 2020.RELATED: Churches pushing back against purple tier restrictionsIn addition, San Diego County put out a notice that anyone who went to the location at 7620 Balboa Ave. between Nov. 15 and Nov. 22 needs to quarantine for two weeks because of a community outbreak. The county said a community outbreak had occurred there, which is when there are three or more reported cases from different homes in the span of two weeks.An attendee at the San Marcus location said he feels comfortable attending in person and indoors.“I think it’s really about having individual choice and trusting people to have the intelligence to do the right thing, and this church has a wonderful uplifting message that I think is so positive and hopeful for people in a time where we find ourselves somewhat down,” said Brian.Brian said that the San Marcos facility is spacious so people are able to spread out, adding that the right to worship freely is in the constitution.RELATED: County asks Kearny Mesa church attendees to quarantine after COVID-19 outbreak“Try to preserve as much of our freedoms and liberties as we can. Also, the website asks attendees to refrain from posting pictures and videos of the services on social media.A video of church leaders posted on the website describes their decision to remain open for in person and indoor services.“We’ve made this decision not out of defiance but out of obedience to God,” two people said in a video on the website, adding that they plan to continue in person services.A county spokesperson said if a cease and desist order is ignored, the next step would be a closure order. After that, law enforcement is asked to get involved by giving citations with a thousand dollar fine for each violation; then the case goes to either the San Diego District Attorney or City Attorney. 2635

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County public health officials have released guidance for celebrating Halloween this month, including recommendations for trick-or-treating and parties.The county is recommending that residents avoid traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, "trunk-or-treating" where candy is offered from cars, or leaving bowls of candy for others at their door this Halloween due to the pandemic.For those who want to find a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, the county recommends "one-way" trick-or-treating where residents leave individually wrapped goodies bags outside for families to grab while maintaining physical distance, such as at the end of the driveway or yard.Parents are also asked to consider giving away treats other than candy, such as stickers, pencils, or mini pumpkins that can be sanitized by parents before given to kids.There are several activities that are not allowed, according to the county, including:In-person gatherings, parties, and events with non-household members even if gatherings are outdoors because physical distancing will not be easy to maintain,Carnivals, petting zoos, festivals, and live entertainment are not allowed because of frequent interaction with high touch surfaces by children and participants, andAny gatherings already not allowed under current public health ordersHaunted houses are not recommended because of the potential for crowds in tight spaces and poor ventilation, making safety and social distancing a challenge.County officials recommend that San Diegans celebrate through:Online parties or costume contestsDrive-thru events and car paradesDecorating homes and yardsMovie nights within households or at drive-in theaters, andPumpkin patches where social distancing and increased hand hygiene is possibleThe county says that whichever way residents end up celebrating Halloween, it's important that they continue to wash and sanitize their hands often and thoroughly, avoid close contact with individuals that are not in the same household, wear a face covering, and stay home and away from others if sick.More Halloween safety resources are available on the county's website. 2175

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California is "getting closer" to issuing guidance on how and when to reopen theme parks across the state during the coronavirus pandemic.Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state is still working on preparing guidance on when and how theme parks across the state can reopen while fighting the spread of COVID-19.“We will make determinations in real-time for theme parks, amusement parks, and the like,” Newsom said. “There’s still many areas where we are open-ended in terms of our negotiation, making progress, and advancing in the same space.”Newsom added the state is “getting closer to concluding when and how to safely reopen those sectors.”Legoland California, Disneyland and California Adventure, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Universal Studios Hollywood have each been shuttered since mid-March after stay-at-home orders were issued for the state.Downtown Disney and Universal CityWalk have reopened outside their respective theme parks with modifications.SeaWorld San Diego reopened last month on a limited basis, requiring reservations for visitors and limited access to exhibits. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Catholic Charities San Diego is holding a workshop Saturday for young Dreamers affected by the DACA program uncertainty.Katia Ortiz is one of them. She said her parents brought her to the U.S. from Mexico when she was three. She said she has no recollection of where she was born.“It was really tough,” Ortiz said about feeling left out. She said she could not travel on class trips, she could not get a driver’s license and she could not apply for a college scholarship. She said DACA opened a lot of doors for her. “I got a job, and I got my license,” she explained. She also said she started attending college. Earlier this month, President Trump called to cut the program in March."It’s like you have everything and then it’s gone," Ortiz added.  "It’s tough thinking about, but I think what we all have to do is sit down and reflect."Frankly, at this time, I really don’t know what I would do."Catholic Charities San Diego helped about 700 people obtain DACA status, the group said. They said U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will continue processing pending initial application accepted as of Sept. 5, 2017 and pending renewal applications already filed. They went on to say USCIS will continue accepting renewal applications until Oct. 5, 2017 from applicants whose DACA expires between Sept. 5, 2017 and March 5, 2018.
