MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has announced the death of her father due to complications from COVID-19. In a statement, Omar said Nur Omar Mohamed died Monday."Surely we belong to God and to him shall we return," she said in a statement. "It is with tremendous sadness and pain to say goodbye to my father, Nur Omar Mohamed. No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew and loved him."She also asked that the public respect her and her family’s privacy. Multiple cell phones, scopes, two rifles and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition were found by police during a search of Travis Reinking's Antioch apartment. In an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, detectives searched Reinking's Discovery at Mountain View apartment and took a number of items. The two rifles were a CZ 452-2EZKM .22 caliber and a Remington 30-06.Police found hundreds of .22 caliber rifle bullets, 87 30-06 bullets, 30 .223 bullets, 29 .45 bullets and 43 .22 caliber bullets.They also found four cell phones, two scopes, a notebook, a safe and several computers. The affidavit describes Reinking's apartment as a one-bedroom apartment. Police said he has been living there for three months. Inside of Reinking's truck that was left at the Waffle House, police found two checks made out to "Travis J. Rankins [sic]." Also, police found an iPod and a Buck Knife with a black sheath.Assorted documents and papers were found in both the apartment and the truck, though what information they contain was not specified. MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee’s top cop has been demoted. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales is now Captain Morales. The Fire and Police Commission could have taken a number of actions against Morales as they voted on his discipline Thursday night including firing him. Instead, they chose a demotion.“The chief, effective immediately, is demoted to the rank of captain,” said Steve DeVougas, chair of the Fire and Police Commission.Morales listened in virtually as every member voted for his demotion. He never made a comment. However, some of the commissioners weighed in.“I feel you have personally not worked with us as the oversight board,” said Nelson Soler, a commissioner with the Fire and Police Commission.Over a month ago, the FPC issued 11 directives to Morales in order for him to keep his job. They included things like increased transparency around investigations and reviewing the policy on using teargas and pepper spray against demonstrators following recent incidents in Milwaukee.Several other directives are meant to create more communication between Morales and the civilian panel. Morales will be required to attend all FPC meetings and allow commissioners to visit his office at their discretion. The FPC also demands police respond to all of its open records requests.“His conduct is unbecoming filled with ethical lapses and flawed decision. Making it inconsistent with some charged with leading the Milwaukee Police Department,” said Ray Robakowski, a commissioner with the Fire and Police Commission.The last few days exposed a deep rift between Morales and FPC Chair Steven DeVougas. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett described it as a feud. But the issues clearly went deeper than a disagreement between the two as every member of the commission agreed Morales needed to go.Assistant Chief Michael Brunson is now Acting Chief Brunson effective immediately. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — A Milwaukee mother is livid that her 5-year-old son with autism was able to walk away from school. He was gone for about an hour and no one even knew he was missing until a stranger picked him up in a car."I can't believe my baby was out of the street and nobody had any idea that he was even missing," said the boy's mom Crystal Borzick.Her son, Blake Greenley, made it to the middle of busy Mill Road near 87th when a stranger spotted him trying to cross."His face was red," said Karen Stacy. "He was very cold. He was crying."Stacy said several cars slammed on their brakes when the boy darted across Mill Road to the median around 11 o'clock Thursday morning. She stopped and got out to try to find out what was wrong.Greenley has autism and does not usually speak to strangers. Stacy finally got him in her car and called the police. She was shocked to find no one reported him missing so she posted his picture on Facebook while she waited for officers.A friend of Borzick shared it with her on Facebook."That's the picture I got sent," said Crystal Borzick. "And as a mom, that made my stomach sink."She frantically called his school, Bruce Elementary."Nobody even has an idea that my son is missing from the school," said Borzick.Officers brought him back. When Crystal saw him she said she broke down."I cried," said Borzick. "I cried. I hugged him like I have never hugged him before. It was a relief sigh of relief, but it's also like I can't believe my baby was out of the street."She said she was told by the school her son might have left after lunch and that his regular teacher was out and a substitute was teaching.Milwaukee Public Schools gave a statement on the matter."We are grateful Blake was quickly found by a concerned community member and that he is safe. (KGTV) -- Police are looking for a man who broke into a National City supermarket early Monday morning and took off with jewelry.At around 2 a.m., a witness called police to report a man breaking the front door glass of the Vallarta store on 901 Euclid Ave.Employees inside the store told officers that a man smashed his way inside, broke a jewelry kiosk and grabbed several items. The man then escaped out of the broken door.Officers spotted some jewelry lying on the ground, but they could not track down the thief. 547
