San Ysidro Boulevard at 2:05 p.m. Friday and as he reached the asphalt of the street, tripped and fell face first and was run over by a Cadillac Escalade pulling out of an adjacent parking lot, Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department said.The pedestrian, who was not identified, sustained fatal injuries, Heims said. 546

(KGTV) -- A 70-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was arrested Wednesday after prosecutors say he strangled a traveler in San Ysidro.Prosecutors say while on duty, Harvey Booker, 70, strangled a traveler at the San Ysidro Port of Entry that resulted in “bodily harm.”No details on what led up to the incident were released about the July 8 incident.“There is no excuse for law enforcement officials to abuse the significant trust and power placed in them,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “Law enforcement takes great pride in protecting the civil rights of all people. When that trust is betrayed, we must hold that officer accountable.”CBP responded with the following comment.“U.S. Customs and Border Protection stresses professionalism, honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission and does not tolerate actions by any employee that would tarnish the reputation of our agency,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations.The agency says they are cooperating with the FBI and DHS in the investigation. (KGTV) - A pedestrian was hit and killed Saturday morning while on a sidewalk in San Marcos, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.The woman was walking on the 500 block of E. Mission Road around 11 a.m. when she was hit by a black BMW that jumped the curb. Skid marks show the car first tried to stop on the asphalt, then hit the curb, a teenage girl, a tree then a wall. Witnesses said the driver is a baseball player and senior at Mission Hills High School.7-Eleven employees told 10News, the victim is also a student. They said she was at school Saturday morning for dance team rehearsal and walked over to the 7-11 on Mulberry on her break to buy some snacks. On her walk back to school, they said she was hit and killed.Friends of the young woman gathered at the crash site to pay their respects, lay flowers and light candles Saturday night. The driver was not injured and stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators.The cause of the crash is under investigation.Students say that stretch of Mission Road is known for speeding. While the limit is 45 mph, they say the flow of traffic is often 10 miles above that. 1206

SANTA ANA (KGTV and CNS) - Authorities say five people were killed Sunday afternoon when a small plane crashed near a Santa Ana shopping center. The crash happened around 12:29 p.m. in the parking lot of the Staples Supercenter on the 3800 block of South Bristol Street. No one on the ground was hurt. As the plane barreled through the parking lot, it struck at least one unoccupied car, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. A nearby intersection was closed in all four directions near the crash. The parking lot is shared by Staples, a CVS drug store, a Michaels' decorations store, and a Wells Fargo Bank branch. The crash site is about one mile northwest of the northern end of the runway at John Wayne Orange County Airport. 781

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 people during an Operation Intercept V, an initiative to protect Sarasota County children from online predators. The suspects, ranging in age from 22 to 58, responded to internet-based ads, online apps or social media sites and engaged in sexually explicit written and verbal conversations, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.One of the suspects promised to stay with a 14-year-old child if he impregnated her while another agreed to have sex with who he believed was a 12-year-old. More than four of the men brought condoms and some offered to bring drugs. Several suspects sent explicit photos. They all traveled with the intent to have sex with a male or female child, according to deputies. “You would think the frequency of Internet predator operations here in Sarasota County and surrounding jurisdictions would reduce the number of criminals prowling online for the sole purpose of sexually exploiting children,” Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight said. “Unfortunately, for some reason, they still think it’s OK to disrupt our community and the children within it. Let this be a reminder for parents to stay cognizant of what their children are doing in this new age of technology. Remember to be a parent.
