Two of Louis C.K.'s longtime television network collaborators are taking action after allegations of sexual misconduct were brought against the comedian on Thursday in a story by the New York Times.HBO has taken steps to distance itself from Louis C.K.. The network announced the comedian will not appear in its upcoming "Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs" event and said his previous projects will be pulled from HBO On Demand services.HBO, like CNN, is owned by TimeWarner."Night of Too Many Stars," an event featuring stand-up performances and sketches, is set to air as scheduled on November 18 and will be hosted by Jon Stewart.FX, meanwhile, said it was "very troubled" by the allegations against Louis C.K. and said it is conducting an unspecified review in light of the accusations."The network has received no allegations of misconduct by Louis C.K. related to any of our 5 shows produced together over the past 8 years," FX said in a statement. "FX Networks and [FX Productions] take all necessary actions to protect our employees and thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct within our workplace. That said, the matter is currently under review."Louis C.K. has served as executive producer for "Better Things," "Baskets," and his auteur comedy "Louie" for the network. On Thursday, Louis C.K. was accused of sexual misconduct by five women who allege he acted inappropriately with them.CNN has not confirmed the women's stories independently.A representative for Louis C.K. initially said the comedian would not be answering "any questions" regarding the matter. Later in the day, the spokesperson said Louis C.K. would be issuing a written statement "in the coming days."The New York City premiere event for Louis C.K.'s film, "I Love You, Daddy," was abruptly canceled on Thursday, prior to the publication of the Times story. 1899

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin will not be participating in an investor conference in Saudi Arabia.Other top finance leaders — including three in Britain, France and Holland — have also withdrawn amid growing controversy over dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance and apparent killing.Mnuchin said on Wednesday that he would make the decision based on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's briefing to President Donald Trump on his visit earlier this week to Riyadh to discuss the Khashoggi case.Pompeo said Thursday that he advised Trump to give the Saudis "a few more days" to investigate.Mnuchin had repeatedly said he plans to attend the Future Investment Initiative pending new information about the case, even as details reported in the Turkish and American press about the fate of the Washington Post columnist's fate have grown increasingly gory.Turkish investigators wearing hazmat suits searched the Saudi consul general's residence in Istanbul on Wednesday, looking for clues to what happened to Khashoggi amid growing indications that the men allegedly responsible for the journalist's death have close ties to the highest levels of the Saudi government.Sources told CNN that a group of Saudi men whom Turkish officials believe are connected to Khashoggi's apparent killing were led by a high-ranking intelligence officer, with one source saying he was close to the inner circle of the kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.Emerging details have triggered a number of top government officials to withdraw from participating in the event, including UK Trade Minister Liam Fox."The Secretary of State for International Trade has decided the time is not right for him to attend the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh on 23 October," said a UK government spokesman in a statement Thursday. "The UK remains very concerned about Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance."The statement continued: "We encourage Turkish-Saudi collaboration and look forward to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducting a thorough, credible, transparent, and prompt investigation, as announced. Those bearing responsibility for his disappearance must be held to account."French finance minister Bruno Le Maire also said Thursday he's canceling his plans to attend next week's conference, dubbed "Davos in the Desert.""The conditions have not yet been met for me to go to Riyadh," Le Maire told French television's Public Senat. "The facts are serious and we want to know the truth", the minister said.Dutch Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra also withdrew on Thursday. A source familiar with the matter told CNN that "the minister is not going" to the Saudi conference. The finance minister was expected to submit a letter to the Dutch Parliament later Thursday formally confirming he is not attending.Mnuchin told reporters during a Treasury press event Wednesday alongside Mexico's finance minister that he would make a decision Thursday. "We're going to revisit the decision again tomorrow," Mnuchin said. "So for now we are. We're going to make a decision tomorrow based on Secretary Pompeo's report."Mnuchin's attendance at the event has become a benchmark of the administration's response to the growing Saudi controversy as top bank executives and investors have dropped out.Christine Lagarde, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, dropped out on Wednesday along with the heads of two major French banks: BNP Paribas and Societe Generale. In recent days, Trump has repeatedly come to the defense of Saudi Arabia, saying the country's crown prince "totally denied" knowledge about the suspected death of the Washington Post journalist and said answers into the matter would be coming "shortly." 3742

Veterinary clinics are swamped right now. It's taking people four to six weeks to get see a vet in some cases. That has pet owners turning to pet emergency rooms to get care faster, but now those ERs are overwhelmed as well. It's a trend we're seeing nationwide.“Come in at 10 o’clock, there's eight or 10 cars out in the parking lot, because they can't get into see their veterinarian,” said Dr. Pat Kennedy Arrington, owner of Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. “Really is a perfect storm of activity right now of difficulty. Normally, we slow down in August and we haven't slowed down. While summer is typically a busy time for animal hospitals, Arrington says she’s seeing a lot of people she’s never seen before.DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon, is seeing this demand as well. In July, their growth was up nearly 30% over the same time last year. In august it was still up 12%.People are having to wait two to six hours with their pets, even up to 10 hours in some cases.“The restriction for protocols of letting people in the building and staying outside and parking outside and having to do a lot of conversations over the phone, everything just takes longer to do,” said Ron Morgan, President and CEO of DoveLewis. “And that's in general practice too.”“Most people are very gracious and appreciative that we're here and mad at their vet for not seeing them in some cases,” said Arrington. “It's unlike anything we've ever seen before.”The number of people who have gotten pets during the pandemic is part of what is making them busier too. Also, with people at home more, they're noticing more potential issues with their pets.Cost is something you need to be aware of. ER exam fees are typically a little higher than a regular vet visit. Some hospitals offer financial assistance or care credit may be an option for you. It's a credit card you can apply for to use for pet expenses. The demand at ERs is also taking a toll on the veterinarians and staff.“So, I think psychologically right now, without that kind of ‘when is this going to slow down’ mentality, that adds to the burden no doubt,” said Morgan. There was already a national staffing shortage in the industry before the pandemic, so that isn't helping the situation.DoveLewis has a clinical social worker who's helping address the mental health needs of its staff.Jefferson Animal Hospital has rewarded its staff extra pay during part of the pandemic. 2463

United Airlines is looking to add flights to their schedule in October, including resuming previously canceled trips and adding new ones.According to the airline, this will bring them up to flying 40 percent of their full schedule in October compared to October 2019. In September, they are only expecting to fly 34 percent of their full schedule. The news comes a week after the airline announced it will furlough more than 16,000 employees in October. That’s when federal bailout money from the federal government expires. The resumed flights include eight routes to Hawaii, “pending approval of the state’s pre-arrival COVID testing program.” Hawaii recently extended their out-of-state visitors ban to October 1. Once they allow visitors and tourists again, travelers must fill out a “safe travels” form and go through pandemic screening measures."We continue to be data-driven and realistic in our approach to rebuilding our network," Ankit Gupta, United's vice president of Domestic Network Planning said in a press release. "Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we're adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we're seeing increased customer demand for travel."Some of those “data-driven” decisions may have led United to realign their schedule to match “current demand for leisure travel.” The airline says in October they will add more flights on days popular with leisure travelers looking for a long weekend getaway, and will schedule fewer flights on days where demand is lower.Other changes and additions in October include:Resuming or starting new service on nearly 50 routes in the US; mostly from United’s hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston.Resuming additional service to Florida and along the west coast.Resuming service to 14 international destinations, including parts of South America and Mexico.United was one of the airlines last week who announced they will be permanently eliminating change fees on flights within the US. Starting next year, they are also expanding their standby options. 2139

Two young brothers in Peoria, Arizona, are hoping to bring smiles to COVID-19 patients by sending homemade cards to Valley hospitals.Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha said they created "Project Smile AZ" to spread positivity. They got the idea after listening to their parents, who are both doctors, speak about COVID-19 patients going through treatment alone in hospitals."We wanted to make them feel accompanied on their journey to get better," said 15-year-old Hurshneet. "We want to make sure everyone is fine, and we want to make sure everyone is happy."When they started, they delivered 150 cards to Banner Health. The response was so great that they decided to keep going."We've had many people reach out to us to send cards to our PO box, as well as hospital CEOs have reached out to us, sending us thank you letters to our email so that made us very proud," he said. Now, they've distributed 1,200 cards to the Navajo Nation, Circle the City, a nonprofit, and several hospitals in the Valley."It helps the patients when we give it to them, and they're saying they put a smile on their faces when they receive them as well, so that's my favorite part," said 12-year-old Pravneet.Through social media, they've gotten classmates and other groups to donate cards, but they make most of them in their living room."We come up with anything that we think would inspire the patient," said Hurshneet. "We put ourselves in the patient's shoes--what would we like for someone to write on a card and what would inspire us in that situation? The brothers want to keep growing and said they'll continue to make "smile cards" as long as there are COVID_19 patients who need them. For those who would like to send cards, the mailing address is:Project Smile AZP.O. Box 10477Glendale, AZ 85318You can also visit their Facebook page to learn how to donate cards or to make a contribution.KNXV's Claudia Rupcich first reported this story. 1929
