It’s startling.”Badeau left college paying, monthly, as much towards student loans as rent in Boston. “Making those payments was insane,” added Badeau. However, a few years after working at Fidelity Investments, the company announced it was rolling out a new workplace perk that would give its employees extra money toward repaying their student loan debt.“Oh my gosh. It was overwhelming in a positive way,” said Badeau, “So, they asked if I could help pilot it and I was like absolutely ‘why not’ why am I not going to do that, right?”Fidelity began giving her and other employees up to 6 a month toward her student loan repayment, with a ,000 lifetime cap. For Badeau, that was almost 20 percent of her monthly student loan bill, and it will equate to paying almost 20 percent of her overall student loan debt. “In the beginning it was something for me where I didn’t see a future in buying a home, I didn’t see a future in starting a family because I couldn’t even fathom getting married or paying for a wedding or having children while battling this debt,” said Badeau, “So now it’s something where that is an option for me.”A growing number of companies are offering similar help to staff stressed and saddled with student loan debt, in part, because these employers are seeing it’s actually benefiting them too.“What we have seen is that it is actually contributing to a reduction in turnover of over 70 percent,” said Asha Shrikantiah.Shrikantiah heads Fidelity’s student loan debt program and has seen it be so successful, internally at increasing employee loyalty and productivity, that the company has taken it external.“We now have an entire benefit’s business around helping people all across the country with standing up employer sponsored benefits for student debt.”Fidelity has helped almost a hundred other companies roll out some form of monthly student loan repayment assistance. That has brought the number to a total of about 8 percent of companies across the country that now offer this new benefit. Over the next five years, that is expected to grow to 20 percent, according to the Society of Human Resources Management. Eventually, student loan repayment assistance could be as common of a workplace perk as 401ks. “Honestly I think there will be no choice. I think just seeing the wave of the generations coming in burdened by the student debt,” said Badeau. “Saving for retirement is a great benefit but right up in there is dealing with your current debt.”Not every company that offers student loan repayment offers it in the same way. Some companies, like Fidelity, will pay their contribution directly to your servicer. Others will match all or a portion of what you pay in monthly student loans to your 401k or other retirement plan. There is quite a variety of ways companies are offering this benefit. Most of the variety comes from companies trying to work this new benefit in, while navigating around tax codes that hinder the amount and way the company can offer student loan repayment assistance.H.R. 1043 is a bill that was introduced in 2019 that would let employers give tax-free student loan assistance up to ,250 a year per employee. Should that bill pass, student loan repayment assistance could be streamlined at most companies that offer it, and even more employers would likely jump on board with the new workplace perk. 3832
California has become the first US state to ban the sale of animal fur products.Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation Friday that will make it illegal to sell, donate or manufacture new fur products in the state.The bill, authored by state assemblymaker Laura Friedman, applies to all new clothing, handbags, shoes and other items made with fur. Those who violate the law would be subject to civil penalties.Used fur and taxidermy products are exempt from the ban, along with leather, cowhide and shearling. Fur products used for religious purposes or by Native American tribes are also exempt, and fur lawfully taken with a hunting license is still allowed.The law goes into effect on January 1, 2023.Newsom also signed a number of other bills into law on Friday designed to prevent animal cruelty.One piece of legislation bans the use of 851

Bugatti unveiled its latest limited-edition model at a classic car show in California Friday. The Bugatti Centodieci will cost million and only 10 will be made.This car is an homage to the Bugatti EB110 supercar of the early 1990s. Centodieci means 110 in Italian. The EB110 was built in Northern Italy's "Motor Valley," not far from where Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maseratis are made. It was an attempt to revive the Bugatti brand, which had been dormant since the 1950s. The Centodieci's design recalls the EB110s low, aggressive appearance.That business ultimately failed, but the automobile it created is still regarded as one of the greatest supercars ever made. The prototype for the EB110 was designed by Carlo Gandini, the same man who designed the Lamborghini Countach. The final production versions of the car were designed by Giampaolo Benedini, who was also an avid racing driver.Volkswagen Group purchased the Bugatti brand name in 1998 and built its modern production facility at Bugatti's ancestral home in Molsheim, France. With the backing of one of the world's largest automakers, Bugatti now makes fast cars for the extremely wealthy, much as it did in the first decades of the 20th century.Until recently, the modern Bugatti factory produced only one car model at a time. The Veryon was offered from 2005 to 2015, with various changes and improvements made throughout its life. Then the Chiron entered production in 2016. Both cars were designed to be astonishingly fast but comfortable and easy to drive, thanks to massive turbocharged 16-cylinder engines mounted behind the two seats. When it was first introduced, the Bugatti Veyron cost about .5 million. The Bugatti Chiron costs more than million.The Centodieci is Bugatti's latest attempt at branching out. All have Bugatti's turbocharged 16-cylinder engine although, in the Centodieci, it's specially tuned to produce up to 1,600 horsepower, 100 more than the Chiron. This car is also slightly lighter than the Chiron. It can go from a full stop to 60 miles an hour in just 2.4 seconds. But its top speed is limited to 236 miles an hour, which is lower than the Chiron's.The body of the Centodieci is designed to be reminiscent of the low, wide stance and wedge-like shape of the EB110."Transporting this classic look into the new millennium without copying it was technically complex, to say the least," said Bugatti designer Achim Anscheidt.The Centodieci's horizontal headlamps set into the hood mimic those of the EB110, but they're narrower and more aggressive thanks to modern LED technology. Instead of the Chiron's swooping C-shaped lines around the big side vents, the Centodieci has openings with straight edges and a cluster of round holes. The Centodieci also has a permanently raised rear wing, unlike the Chiron's wing, which can be lowered so that it lays against the car's body. Both those features -- the vent holes and raised rear wing -- were drawn from the Bugatti EB110 SS, a very high performance version of that car.All 10 of the supercars have already been pre-sold. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Florida mother is suing the company who makes Banana Boat sunscreen.Agi Kiraga says one of their sprays caused her son's skin to blister."It was Sunday afternoon. Me and my husband decided to take Jaden to the pool," the Boynton Beach, Florida, mother said.Having recently moved from Chicago, Kiraga made sure to put sunscreen on her then 2-year-old son. "I apply directly on the skin and then I spread on his body," says Kiraga.Kiraga says she used "Banana Boat kids, tear-free, sting-free broad spectrum continuous spray sunscreen" for the first time.She says it was about 4 p.m. when they went to the pool, and they only stayed outside for an hour and a half at most.Later that night, Kiraga says, "all of a sudden I saw some circle spot on his shoulder." She says it was in the spot where she had directly sprayed."Next day, the spot was more red," the mother says.A day after that, Kiraga says, "it was bad. First, you had those blisters, then it was blistered where it ruptured. And then skin peeling off."Kiraga says her dermatologist told her he'd seen it before with that sunscreen. Although he did not see Jaden himself, dermatologist Reid Green, with Water's Edge Dermatology in Florida, says he's seen similar negative reactions to sunscreen before."There are certain properties in the ingredients in some chemical sunscreens that are sort of activated by the sun," says Green. That causes irritation, an allergic reaction or other problems. Green recommends using zinc- or titanium-based sunscreen."It means that instead of protecting the children from the sun, it’s actually causing a reaction to the sun as if someone put oil on their body," says Kiraga's attorney, Harris Katz, after he says he consulted with toxicologists.An internet search shows other parents around the world have complained too.Katz says they filed the lawsuit to get Banana Boat's parent company, Edgewell Personal Care, to put warnings on the label."As a parent myself, I find it to be incredibly scary and unnerving that you can use a product like this and not know it’s dangerous until almost 24 hours goes after the application," says Katz.Jaden has a scar where the blisters once were."I brought in this world a healthy kid. And just because this company didn’t put in a warning, it’s painful to him," says Kiraga.WPTV reached out to Edgewell Personal Care and their lawyer, but they did not respond.
