President Donald Trump pointed the finger Wednesday night at Democrats and the news media for the turbulent national political environment, on the same day explosive devices were mailed to the Obamas, the Clintons, CNN and other public officials.Trump took no responsibly for the tone of the political discourse.During a rally in Wisconsin, the President promised to bring those responsible for mailing the explosive devices to justice."Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself. No nation can succeed that tolerates violence or the threat of violence as a method of political intimidation, corrosion or control, we all know that. Such conduct much be fiercely opposed and firmly prosecuted," he said."We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony. We can do it. We can do it. We can do it. It'll happen."Then he pivoted, saying those in the political arena "must stop treating political opponents as being morally defective.""The language of moral condemnation and destructive, routine -- these are arguments and disagreements that have to stop," he said.He complained of "mobs" -- a reference to protesters, who opposed Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination and confronted Republican senators on Capitol Hill, and who have challenged GOP lawmakers and Trump Cabinet officials at restaurants and in public."No one should carelessly compare political opponents to historical villains, which is done often and all the time. It's got to stop. We should not mob people in public spaces or destroy public property. There is one way to settle our disagreements -- it's called peacefully, at the ballot box. That's what we want," Trump said.He then said it's the news media's responsibility to set the national political tone."The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories. Have to do it," he said.Trump took no responsibility for his own rhetoric -- which has included attacks on news outlets and Democratic opponents, as well as moments like a recent rally in Montana where he praised a Republican congressman who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his body-slamming a reporter. 2247

President Donald Trump expressed skepticism Tuesday over the ability to legally download plans for 3-D printed guns, saying he's spoken with the National Rifle Association about them because the technology "doesn't seem to make much sense!"The President's comments come one day before the government will allow online plans to be posted on the web following a settlement with gun-rights activists."I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public. Already spoke to NRA, doesn't seem to make much sense!" the President tweeted Tuesday, without offering further details about what he'll do about the weapons. 625

President Donald Trump on Sunday excused the actions of his supporters who surrounded a Biden campaign bus and — in the words of one Biden campaign staffer — attempted to run the bus off the road.In a Sunday evening tweet, Trump called his supporters who surrounded the bus "patriots" and said they did "nothing wrong."Trump's tweet came hours after the FBI's branch in San Antonio said it was investigating the incident. Trump also said that the agency and the Department of Justice should instead investigate antifa and other left-wing agitators. 556

President Donald Trump briefly appeared before reporters Thursday to tout June's job report as coronavirus cases continue to spike across the country.Trump said the report — which was released about an hour before the briefing — showed an increase in consumer confidence. He also touted big gains in the stock market, which just closed one of its best quarters in decades."It's coming back bigger and faster," Trump said. The briefing came a day after Johns Hopkins reported that the U.S. reported its highest single-day increase in new COVID-19 cases."We have some areas where we're putting out the flames or the fires, and that's working out well," Trump said. "I think you'll see that shortly."Trump left the briefing room without taking questions from reporters. Director of the United States National Economic Council Larry Kudlow and Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin took questions following Trump's departure.Mnuchin said that he feels states are "acting appropriately" in pausing some aspects of their reopening processes, and said that the Trump administration encourages all Americans to wear a mask. However, he added that he does not feel Trump needs to wear a mask because those who work with him daily are regularly tested for the virus.Mnuchin added that he believed that "most" schools would be able to open normally in the fall and that the administration was investigating ways to get federal funds to schools to facilitate reopening."We want to make sure kids are safe," Mnuchin said. 1505

President Donald Trump and the first lady will be spending Thanksgiving at the White House instead of attending the annual dinner at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. The first lady’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed the plans in a “Holiday Scheduling Update” on Twitter on Tuesday evening.Trump and his family typically spend the holiday in Palm Beach and have Thanksgiving dinner in a ballroom alongside dues-paying members who purchase tickets to attend.A spokesperson for the Trump Organization did not respond to questions Tuesday about whether the Mar-a-Lago event would be held given the spike in coronavirus cases and pleas from public health officials for Americans to limit the number of people they socialize with indoors this holiday season to limit the spread.Meanwhile, Joe Biden said Monday that he and his wife are planning to follow the advice of medical officials who recommend no more than 10 people at a gathering, masked and socially distanced. Biden also says anyone at their Thanksgiving gathering would be tested for the virus 24 hours before getting together. The restrictions may be difficult, but Biden says, “I just want to make sure we’re able to be together next Thanksgiving, next Christmas."The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging people to celebrate virtually or with members of their household, noting that in-person gatherings with people from different households “pose varying levels of risk.” Guidance also notes that a gathering’s size “should be determined based on the ability of attendees from different households” to socially distance and follow hygiene recommendations. 1645
