(KGTV) - The parents of a two-year-old boy say they're still reliving the terrifying experience they faced in a store parking lot over the weekend.Peter Kopcak and his fiance Jennifer Lawson were backing out of the Costco parking lot on Hacienda Drive in Vista Saturday afternoon."I just seen out of the corner of my eye this guy running down between the two cars, and I didn't know what he was doing," said Kopcak.The couple said the guy tried to rip their toddler out of his car seat."He opened the car seat back door, reached in and grabbed my kid, she jumped out of the car, left it in reverse, I put it in park. I jumped out, he was trying to grab the carseat and, she pushed him and I just had to take him down," said Kopcak.Kopcak tackled the man to the ground."I took him to the ground and did what I had to do to subdue him, a bunch of people, an off duty officer pulled me off the guy and held him down told him to put his hands behind his back," said Kopcak.Sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Adam Glavinic. He's facing charges of felony attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance."I thought he was going to take my kid and I wasn't about to let that happen, I'd do anything I could to stop him cause that's the worst nightmare, just having someone A, touch your kid, B, try to take your kid," said Kopcak.The couple was also upset to learn Glavinic was released from jail on a 0,000 bail Sunday."I couldn't stop crying when I found out, cause he will do this to someone else and who knows if it's a single mom or the husband isn't quick enough, and the guy takes off," said Lawson."I don't understand how he got out so fast. What if he tries to grab another kid or hurt someone else? It boggles my mind," said Kopcak.There's a backlog of out of custody cases due to the pandemic. VISTA (CNS) - An ex-con who stole a car with a 6-month-old baby inside from an Escondido shopping center pleaded guilty to felony auto theft and was immediately sentenced to four years in state prison on Monday.Anthony Guerrero, 31, entered his change of plea during a hearing at the Vista courthouse. He also admitted that he was convicted of robbery in 2009 and 2015, said Deputy District Attorney Nicolette Estrada.Dispatchers received a call from the baby's mother at 10:06 p.m. on Dec. 4 saying that her Mercedes-Benz sedan was stolen from outside a 99 Cents Only store at the Civic Center Plaza Shopping Center on North Escondido Boulevard. She said her 6-month-old child was in the vehicle.A short time later, a police officer spotted the Mercedes in a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Escondido Boulevard, less than two miles from the shopping center where the car was taken, said Escondido police Sgt. Suzanne Baeder. As the officer approached, the suspect, later identified as Guerrero, got out of the car and ran.He was taken into custody after he crossed the street and the baby was found inside the car unharmed, Baeder said. 1153

Voters in Colorado have rejected a measure that would have added buffer zones for new oil and gas drilling areas.The passage of Proposition 112 would have banned drilling of wells within 2,500 feet of occupied buildings, water sources and other "vulnerable" areas. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Department is reviewing the actions of several deputies after a witness posted a controversial video on Facebook.The video shows two deputies walking a man in handcuffs just before they slam his head into a fence. Later in the video, they can be seen smacking another man in the head who is already down on the ground in handcuffs.The woman who shared the video on Facebook claims they deputies used excessive force and wants justice for the two men. A Sheriff's spokesman says the video was taken on Monday morning when deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at a Vista apartment complex.When deputies arrived the suspect was wielding a weapon and holding someone against their will, the spokesman said. During the arrest, other parties fought with the deputies. The spokesperson says the department is reviewing the body camera footage and the cell phone video.10News visited the scene of the arrests.
