XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the "SinoSat-6" satellite for radio and television live broadcast at 12:14 a.m.Sunday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.The satellite was carried on the Long March 3B rocket which took the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after the launch.In the following days, Xi'an Satellite Control Center and Yuanwang tracking ship will manipulate the satellite's position and transfer it to enter the geostationary orbit.SinoSat-6 has a designed lifespan of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4 degrees east about 35,700 kilometers above the equator, said the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the satellite's researcher and producer.It will mainly serve for relaying TV and radio live broadcast signals and will greatly improve cultural life for people living in remote and mountainous regions, according to China Satellite Communications Corporation which will operate the satellite.China has launched the first SinoSat series satellite, SinoSat-1, in 1998. The SinoSat-2 was launched in 2006 but malfuctioned for it failed to deploy its solar panels and communication antennae.SinoSat-6 will serve as a substitute for SinoSat-3 which was launched on June 1, 2007, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

HANGZHOU, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm Meranti hit east China's Zhejiang Province at 7 p.m. Friday after leaving the neighboring province of Fujian where about 150,000 people were evacuated, said local authorities.Typhoon Meranti weakened to a tropical storm at 2 p.m. in Fujian Province, and then to a tropical depression at 8 p.m. in Zhejiang.The tropical depression was tracked as it passed through Lishui City of Zhejiang at 8 p.m., with a wind speed of 54 km per hour near its center, according to Zhejiang provincial flood control authorities.The storm is moving northeastward at 20 km per hour, and may leave Zhejiang Saturday morning or further weaken, according to the Zhejiang meteorological center.Photo taken on Sept. 10, 2010 shows high waves hitting a port in Pinghai Town of Putian, southeast China's Fujian Province, Sept. 10, 2010. It also improves people's living standards and expands domestic demand, helping adjust China's economic structure," said a statement issued after an executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet, presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.The government will prioritize development of housekeeping services, community services, senior citizen care, and home care for the sick to meet the basic needs of families, the statement said.Delivery of household necessities and home education may also be developed in line with local conditions to meet the special needs of households, the statement added.The government encourages business people to invest in the home services industry to nurture a domestic home services market, it said.The statement also said public employment service providers must improve their services and offer free career counseling for home service providers.The government also promised to intensify supervision of home service companies to safeguard consumer rights.It also promised to take measures to safeguard service providers' rights to reasonable salaries.
