SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman died Friday morning after she was hit by a vehicle while walking in a Mira Mesa crosswalk.The victim, who has yet to be identified, was crossing the 9200 block of Capricorn Way in a crosswalk at about 9:45 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle, San Diego Police said. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, died at the scene.Police later found the driver, a 31-year-old man, and his vehicle, a black 2004 Nissan Titan. Police said the driver was making a right turn from Black Mountain Rd. onto Capricorn Wy. when he fatally struck the woman with his vehicle. SDPD did not say if any arrests have been made. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man was walking downtown to his apartment with a pizza Thanksgiving Day, about to spend the evening alone, when he met a gentleman who asked for a slice.The two sat down, shared the pizza and a conversation. The man who bought the pizza, Broc Costa, said the conversation with the homeless man was enlightening. He learned the man was a veteran trying to get mental health services in California, splitting his time between San Diego and Arizona where his wife and kids live.He said it was too expensive to live or buy a hotel room here so he was on the street. "To be blunt, we're all about one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation," Costa said.So next year he bought 5 pizzas to hand out, the next 20 and the year after that, 20 more.This tradition started 7 years ago.Now Costa's raising money and sending volunteers across the county to deliver pizzas to homeless where they reside."It would be really cool for him to see what he started, because he's just as important in this as I was," Costa said he wishes him the best.This year they're at Petco Park's tailgate parking lot near the pedestrian bridge, in Escondido and Pacific Beach delivering more than 50 pizzas and serving 500 to 1,000, according to Costa. 1304

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman broke her thigh bone after she was riding on a motorized scooter and lost control in downtown San Diego Friday.The 65-year-old woman was riding a Bird scooter just before 2 p.m. in the Embarcadero area, according to San Diego Police. Her family members were also riding scooters with her.For some reason, police say the woman lost control of the scooter and overturned. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of grapes caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 8 in El Cajon Monday morning.Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on westbound I-8 just near dunbar lane shortly after 12:30 a.m.Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of grapes, but it was a total lost.California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver escaped unharmed.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 487
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An SUV reported stolen crashed as it fled from San Diego police, killing three of the vehicle’s occupants.At around 11 p.m. Tuesday, police were near the intersection of 24th Street and Island Avenue in Sherman Heights when they spotted a silver 2003 Honda Pilot SUV traveling without its headlights on, before learning that it was reported stolen a day earlier by Chula Vista Police.The driver ran a red light while traveling east on Market Street, according to SDPD. When officers tried to pull the SUV over, the driver sped away towards Interstate 15.Officers lost sight of the vehicle. Moments later, with a police helicopter tracking the SUV, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a pole on Market Street, near Raven Street, in the Mount Hope area.According to police, two of the four people inside were ejected from the vehicle and two others were trapped in the wreckage. Emergency responders took one person to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, but they are expected to survive. The driver and two other passengers were declared dead at the scene, police said.No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.The initial investigation revealed that none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts as the vehicle was traveling more than 100 mph just before the crash, police said. 1387
