SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s newest ride is shut down for maintenance, according to Cal/OSHA.According to the agency, Tidal Twister was shut down June 1, roughly two weeks after its opening on May 24. The ride was shut down to address mechanical issues. Cal/OSHA says SeaWorld is working with the manufacturer to repair the ride. RELATED: SeaWorld unveils Tidal Twister thrill ride at San Diego parkOnce the ride is ready to reopen, an inspection will have to be done by Cal/OSHA to ensure it can be operated safely. The ride recently opened as SeaWorld works to complete more rides in the San Diego park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego-based Qualcomm won a million decision Friday against Apple in a patent infringement case involving iPhones. A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California found the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X infringed Qualcomm’s patents. One of the patents enables "flashless booting”, eliminating the need for separate flash memory. It also allows a smartphone to connect to the internet quickly after being powered on, according to Qualcomm officials. The other two patents allow smartphone apps to access internet data quickly, and enable high performance and graphics while increasing battery life, Qualcomm said in a news release. Qualcomm was awarded million in damages from July 6, 2017, the date the lawsuit was filed, through the end of the trial. "Today's unanimous jury verdict is the latest victory in our worldwide patent litigation directed at holding Apple accountable for using our valuable technologies without paying for them," said Don Rosenberg, executive vice president and general counsel for Qualcomm. "The technologies invented by Qualcomm and others are what made it possible for Apple to enter the market and become so successful so quickly. The three patents found to be infringed in this case represent just a small fraction of Qualcomm's valuable portfolio of tens of thousands of patents. We are gratified that courts all over the world are rejecting Apple's strategy of refusing to pay for the use of our IP." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Still many unanswered questions after alleged Poway synagogue shooter appeared at his readiness hearing in San Diego Superior Court.The Deputy District Attorney, David Grapilon, said he doesn't know if this will be a death penalty case and can't tell 10News how the 19-year-old legally obtained the gun used during the shooting.In the state case the shooter faces one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and a count of arson against an Escondido mosque."We have still not received recordings of the witnesses, we expect that there's going to be firearms analysis which will be crucial for this case, we also expect that there's going to be computer evidence involving my client's computer which is going to be very relevant in this case," Public Defender John O'Connell said.The evidence is already extensive, more than 700 pages handed over from the Deputy District Attorney to the defense. More evidence includes surveillance video of the shooting from the time he entered to the time he left the synagogue."The Sheriff's Department did a pretty exhaustive investigation along with the FBI, and allied agencies and there's a lot of statements of witnesses that we're taking," Grapilon said. He added those statements will be redacted when turned over to the defense.While the shooter's family was in federal court two days ago, no one was in the gallery Thursday.10News went to the family's neighborhood to see how they're faring. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police say a Chula Vista woman killed her mother in a Mission Valley office building, then shot herself days later with the same gun.Homicide detectives investigated the 911 call from an office building on Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley on July 22.Officers found Maria Kelly, 66, dead inside her office.RELATED: SDPD: Mother murdered, daughter deadKelly's 34-year-old daughter, Crystal Vasquez, drove to the location hours later.Vasquez went into the restroom of a nearby business and was discovered dead of a gunshot wound.San Diego Police said Vasquez shot and killed her mother the afternoon of July 20. The next day, Vasquez cashed a ,000 check written from her mother's bank account.Police told 10News the Vasquez likely shot her mother after being confronted about stealing money from the family business. Vasquez embezzled money from her mother's Mission Valley accounting business for about a year, according to police. Police believe Vasquez shot herself after learning about the possibility of cameras at the building's entry and exit.A forensic examination confirmed the handgun Vasquez used to commit suicide was the same gun used to kill Kelly.  Video surveillance also showed Vasquez was in the office with Kelly at the time of the murder. 1330

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego chefs will try and set the world record for most pieces of sushi made in 48 hours this month.Sushi Festival San Diego will see Chef Jeff Roberto and several others try to produce 100,000 pieces of sushi in 48 hours, from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28.Roberto, who owns Sushi On A Roll, says the feat has been in the works for a while now.RELATED: San Diego is among top 'foodie cities' in America, report says"This has been a long time coming. "I'm excited to have my friends in the industry to be a part of this and to make this happen."Tickets for the event range from 0 - 5, including intimate omakase experiences from featured chefs and VIP tickets including all-you-can-eat dining — because there will definitely be plenty to go around. A variety of local taiko groups and other performers will also provide live entertainment during the event.Profits from the event will benefit the Friends of Rollo nonprofit, which take youth fishing and educates them about the ocean ecosystem.
