Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham are cutting ties.A representative for the band confirmed to CNN on Monday that Buckingham and the band have parted ways and that he will not be going on tour with them in the fall."Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour," a statement read. "The band wishes Lindsey all the best."The representative would not provide any further details as to what led to his departure. A source close to the band told CNN that the split was "over musical differences regarding the tour." A representative for Buckingham referred questions to the band.Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, the same year as the band's longtime lead singer, Stevie Nicks. Buckingham, who has since served as the lead guitarist for the band, wrote some of the band's most well-known songs including "Go Your Own Way," which was the lead single off the band's highly successful 1977 album, Rumours.The vague statement regarding Buckingham's abrupt departure came at the same time the band announced that musicians Mike Campbell and Neil Finn would be joining the band on tour.Fleetwood Mac was originally founded in 1967 by Peter Green. The band was named after two of its band members, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Green left the band in 1969. Christine McVie joined the band in 1970.Over the years the band has experienced ups and downs. The band went on hiatus in 1982 and when they agreed to go back on tour in 1987, Buckingham backed out at the last minute. In 1998, Christine McVie left the band and rejoined in 2014.During a Grammy event in January, CNN spoke to Buckingham, who said said that the "dysfunction" is what made the band great."Everything that we wore on our sleeve, the discord and nature of the band, was the people breaking up, the dysfunction. Even if you look at, on paper the five people they don't look like they would belong in the same band together but it adds up to something bigger than the sum of the parts. For many 5-year-old kids across the country, kindergarten is an exciting first introduction into the classroom. But this year, schools are grappling with growing COVID-19 cases and declining kindergarten enrollment numbers."In terms of our kinder cohort, we usually have about 23,000 students registered in Miami-Date County schools for kindergarten. Right now, as of this week, we have a total of 14,724 registered already for next year," said administrative director Berena Cabrera, with Miami-Date County Public Schools in Florida.Cabrera says the district is tackling a 40-percent decline in kindergarten enrollment, and other public schools across the country are dealing with a similar situation.At Visalia Unified School District in central California, kindergarten enrollment is down by 15 percent. At Poway Unified School District, near San Diego, they're seeing 5 percent less kindergarten students enrolling. Fulton County Schools in the Atlanta, Georgia area reports 12 percent less students are enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming school year."Kindergarten is critical. It is the foundation of a successful student. And in Florida, it is mandatory for students to start kindergarten," said Cabrera.While kindergarten isn't mandatory in all states, educators agree it's an important beginning to a student's education. Rising coronavirus cases in communities combined with public schools having to tackle the virus head-on, has prompted some parents to turn to private kindergarten.Primrose Schools, which offers private daycare, preschool and kindergarten at more than 400 locations across the country, says they've seen a massive increase in interest, especially for those parents whose local districts are offering a virtual-only program this fall."Many of the working parents, obviously, they’ve got to have childcare. Where they would have had before and after school care now they're going to need full day. So, what we’ve seen is our schools responding rapidly by many of them opening up classrooms to kindergarten programs," Jo Kirchner, CEO of Primrose Schools, said.Kirchner says some of their locations are adding kindergarten classrooms to accommodate the increased interest. Their schools offer a 1:10 teacher to student ratio, plus heightened sanitation protocols."Even the parents who stay home with their children, who now find themselves virtual versus sending them to school, don’t really have the skill sets to provide the academic learning support the children need,” Kirchner said. “Kindergarteners have a fairly short attention span so distance learning is not the best environment for a kindergartner.”While kindergarten families across the country consider their options, Miami-Dade County Public Schools is converting a lot of their enrollment from paper to digital. Additionally, they're doing a big push on the district's website and social media."We’re hopeful that registration does pick up in the coming weeks. FLORIDA — As many as 200 employees at the Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky facility in Jupiter, Florida could be affected by potential layoffs this summer.The workers union representing the employees -- Teamsters Local 1150 -- said they are doing everything they can to find people new positions within the company.Journalists at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida first heard about the likely layoffs from employees who reached out earlier this week and expressed concern about who would be on the chopping block.The layoffs involve workers in the Blackhawk military helicopter program, which shares space at the United Technologies facility off Beeline Highway in Jupiter. There are a total of 500 employees working there.No names or positions of who will be laid off have been finalized."This has been coming for a while," said Rocco Calo, a board member for Teamsters Local 1150 based in Connecticut. Sikorsky is also based in Connecticut.In a phone interview with WPTV on Wednesday, Calo said unfortunately, they're seeing a big downtown in military work for the Blackhawk and Seahawk helicopters they build."In the Florida plant, they were working on Canadian maritime military helicopter program, which is dwindling down now, coming to an end," he said.Sikorsky is also seeing a decline in the number of aircraft the government is requesting to be built. The company operates on a multi-year contract with the government and Calo said with the current contract shows a significantly lower number of aircraft requests than in years past. The union is monitoring negotiations for future contracts."It's starting to look a little better for the out years, but nothing is signed yet. But we some irons in the fire, we're hopeful," said Calo.Sikorsky was bought by Lockheed Martin for billion in 2015, which could also be a contributing factor the changes the Sikorsky is undergoing right now."Naturally when you go through mergers and acquisitions, there are things that can happen with companies. They can either increase in terms of employees or they downsize," said Kelly Smallridge, president and CEO of the Palm Beach County Business Development Board.Her agency monitors and recruits businesses to establish operations in Palm Beach County."While we hate to see any company lay off employees in Palm Beach County, this is the time that other companies will be happily take any kind of skilled worker over to their operations," she said.Smallridge said there are 1,300 aerospace and engineering companies operating in this county alone and the BDB is on stand-by to assist any employees affected by the Sikorsky layoffs."We're ready to help place those employees in other operations. There are 67 corporate headquarters in Palm Beach County, so there's ample business opportunity," she said.Calo said Lockheed is still working on crunching numbers to determine the final number of layoffs. While employees feared the number would push 200, Calo said after factoring in early retirements and relocations for some positions, that number could be much lower."We had a significant number of people sign up for an early out package," he said.Some workers could be offered jobs at other locations in Connecticut and Alabama."I don't think we will be able to offset all of the involuntary stuff. A notice has not yet been filed for the Jupiter facility.
