He's being held without bond on capital murder charges.This wouldn't be the first time Watt has stepped up for the greater Houston community in the face of tragedy. KANSAS CITY, Mo. –- For two parents, welcoming three bundles of joy into the world last week was a one-in-a-million feeling. Statistically speaking, that’s not too far off. Identical triplets were born at Truman Medical Center Thursday to Nicole and Caleb Choge. Baby boys Ron, Elkanah, and Abishai were born just minutes apart and six weeks premature. By Sunday, the brothers were doing well under observation in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. According to doctors, it’s not uncommon for multiple births to come prematurely. What is uncommon is identical triplets. According to a study in the Journal of Biosocial Science, identical triplets occur only about 20 to 30 times per 1 million births. While the boys’ mother rested, new father Caleb Choge spoke with reporters Sunday. The couple, who have a 2-year-old son, was expecting another baby but were surprised when they saw the sonogram. “My wife and I and our son prayed for another child,” he said. “And then, I like to say, God answered everybody’s prayer: one, two and three.”Until recently, the couple lived in Kenya, Caleb Choge’s home country. They moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to Nicole Choge’s family. 1253
JACUMBA (CNS) - Authorities have identified the 22-year-old man who died Saturday after the car he was driving collided with a guardrail on Interstate 8.Gonzalo Martinez of Hemet died shortly after the 4:48 p.m. crash on the eastbound side of the freeway just before In-Ko-Pah Road in Jacumba, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.Martinez lost control of the Volkswagen Jetta he was driving after it drifted toward the shoulder and collided with a guardrail. The car stopped about 40 yards from the point of impact, according to the preliminary California Highway Patrol investigation.He was pronounced dead at the scene. 653
LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A potentially flammable sea flare washed ashore at La Jolla Shores Tuesday, leading to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Bomb Squad investigation.A person who was walking on the beach near Kellogg Park found the flare canister and took it to the lifeguard station. The witness did not notify lifeguards, who found it about 3 p.m.Lifeguard Lt. Rich Stropky said the flare had not been detonated and still posed a danger, despite the presence of water in the canister.The device appears to be similar to an MK 58 Mod 1 marine location marker. An online description indicates the marker is designed to be a smoke and flames reference-point marker on the ocean’s surface. It is used for antisubmarine warfare, search-and-rescue operations, man-overboard markings, and as a target for practice bombings.The bomb squad reached out to the military Tuesday for guidance in the emergency. Troops from MCAS Miramar were called to the scene to investigate. Shortly after 8 p.m. Marines had removed the device and cleared the scene. There were no reports of injuries. 1089
