OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — An Oceanside officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a man broke a patrol vehicle's windshield, sending glass into the officer's eyes.OPD said a man known to police as a transient got into a confrontation with an officer at College Ave. and North River Rd. at about 5 p.m. The man reportedly used an object to break the windshield of the officer's vehicle, injuring the officer's eyes with glass.The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and will reportedly be okay, according to OPD.The San Diego Sheriff's Department, Carlsbad Police, and an ASTREA helicopter helped in the search for the suspect. SDSO said just before 7 p.m. that the suspect was in custody.According to City News Service, the suspect was armed with a machete. The suspect reportedly stabbed a police dog during his arrest. Ontario’s minister of sport said in a speech that the Ontario Hockey League will not have bodychecking this season.Lisa MacLeod told the Empire Club of Canada that removing purposeful physical contact is a necessity for all sports in the province to slow the spread of COVID-19“Not just in the OHL, not just in hockey in general, but in all sports,” MacLeod said. "We’re in a very serious game right now and the reality is we have to take those public health precautions.”The OHL announced Thursday that it plans to start a shortened season on Feb. 4, the last of Canada’s three major junior leagues to release a schedule.“Until such time as we arrive at an agreed upon Return to Play protocol with the Government of Ontario, the League will have no further comment on the matter of body contact,” the OHL said in a statement.The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season started earlier this month, but the schedule has been affected by several COVID-19 outbreaks as well as provincial government restrictions. Officers in New Jersey broke up a large house party in New Jersey with hundreds of people in attendance, authorities said.Police responded to a residence along Mill Pond Road in Jackson following a report of a suspicious incident around 8:30 p.m., according to Jackson Police Department.Officers arrived and spoke with several neighbors who said a house on the street was rented out to a group that was having a large party, causing a disturbance.Police contacted the homeowner, who said he had rented out the residence on Airbnb.The party expanded to about 700 people in attendance, with over 100 vehicles parked in the area, according to police.Officers began clearing the crowd from the residence and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and authorized charges against the homeowner and party organizer for violating the state’s executive order in reference to the number of attendees allowed at a gathering.Officers from the Freehold Police Department, Howell Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and New Jersey State Police also responded to assist and clear the large crowd from the residence and direct traffic as people left the area, according to authorities.During that time, police also received a call from a resident nearby reporting people who attended the party had broken into their residence and were damaging property.An investigation determined a family member of the caller was at the original party and had invited a large group back to their residence. The group was then dispersed, police said.It took until 1 a.m. for the officers to clear the residences of partygoers and all the vehicles from the neighborhood.The homeowner, later identified as 40-year-old Yaakov Weiss and the party organizers, 23-year-old Patience Guanue and 22-year-old Alicia Hinneh, were issued summonses.Gov. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California prosecutor says she's reopening an investigation into the killing of a 22-year-old Black man at a train station by a transit officer 11 years ago. Oscar Grant was shot and killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer on New Year's Day in 2009. The officer was charged with murder, found guilty of a lesser charge, and served 11 months in jail. Grant's family wants charges to be filed against another officer who pinned Grant down with a knee to his neck in a manner similar to that used in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Nurses at an assisted living facility in Glendale, Arizona are facing backlash for filming and making fun of elderly patients. The video ended up posted to the social media site 'Snapchat'. The incident occurred at the Glencroft Senior Living facility.  An administrator from Glencroft told Phoenix-based KNXV that the facility cannot discuss personnel issues, but did learn about the video Monday morning and is taking the situation seriously. The video shows an elderly woman using a walker as she advances toward the camera. She is obviously agitated, telling the workers she "almost fell" and is seen asking for her pills. Instead of helping the woman, the nurses continue filming as they watch the woman and mock her.The video came to light after a whistleblower saw it on social media and alerted KNXV, as well as Glencroft, and the Arizona state agency that licenses nurses.She is also a nurse and said she knows the woman who made the video from nursing school. "It just disgusted me that you would treat someone like this," said the whistleblower, who asked to remain anonymous. "This lady obviously has some dementia or something going on."The whistleblower also said she is worried about violations of the patient's rights under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.  KNXV has reached out to the Arizona State Board of Nursing but has yet to receive an answer on this topic.  1468
