DALLAS (AP) — A Texas prosecutor said Friday that investigators have linked more than 60 killings in at least 14 states to a 79-year-old California inmate who may be the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history.Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland said Samuel Little continues to cooperate with investigators from around the country who interrogate him in prison about cold case killings dating back to the 1970s. Among those who spoke to him were investigators from Ohio, where Little grew up and where he's suspected of killing at least five women.Little was convicted of killing three Los Angeles-area women and pleaded guilty to killing a Texas woman, and he's serving life sentences in California. Little, who lived a nomadic lifestyle, claims to have killed 93 women as he crisscrossed the country over the years.Bland said Little is in failing health and has exhausted his appeals, leading him to be forthcoming with investigators."At this point in his life I think he's determined to make sure that his victims are found," he said.During Little's 2014 trial in Los Angeles, prosecutors said he was likely responsible for at least 40 killings since 1980. Authorities at the time were looking for possible links to deaths in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Texas.But Little was not forthcoming with information at the time and Bland credits Texas Ranger James Holland with gaining Little's trust and eventually eliciting a series of confessions.Holland traveled to California last year to speak with Little about cold cases in Texas. That led Little to be extradited to Texas and his guilty plea in December in the 1994 strangulation death of Denise Christie Brothers in the West Texas city of Odessa. But Holland's conversations with Little have continued, even after Little was returned to California to serve his sentences, and it was Holland who determined that he was responsible for 93 deaths, said Bland, who received an update from Holland this week.Information provided to Holland was relayed to law enforcement agencies in several states, leading to a revolving door of investigators who traveled to California to corroborate decades-old deaths.Among them were investigators from Ohio, where prosecutors on Friday announced charges against Little in the 1981 killing of a Cincinnati woman and where he was charged last week in the deaths of two women in Cleveland. He previously was charged in a second Cincinnati killing and confessed to another one in Cleveland, though investigators are still trying to identify the victim in that case.He explained that Little's victims often were suffocated or strangled, in many cases leaving few physical marks and leading investigators to determine the women died of overdoses or of natural causes."There's still been no false information given," Bland said. "Nothing has been proven to be false."Gary Ridgway, the so-called Green River Killer, pleaded guilty to killing 49 women and girls, making him the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history in terms of confirmed victims, though he said he killed 71. 3122

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - SANDAG will start a million project in September, hoping to stabilize Del Mar cliffs that support railroad tracks.Geologist Dr. Pat Abbott says this winter and spring have been rough for bluffs, "in the past few months with a lot of rainfall, we've seen cliff collapses galore in Del Mar."SANDAG says they're going to install pillars and repair drainage structures, "put in steel beams, tie backs, bits of concrete walls, to start to stabilize some of the beach cliffs," Abbott added.The nine-month long project stretches from Seagrove Park to Carmel Valley Road."I think it's a wonderful idea, it's better to do it now, get it behind us, before something happens and a train goes off the side of the cliff," neighbor Lynn Kunkle said.Abbott calls it a Band-Aid, "there's no easy way to get out of this...You have tall sea cliff standing here, ocean waves beating at the bottom, rains soaking into the ground you have trains going by better than 50 a day."Each of those factors eroding the cliff side. Down on the beach lies an example of the fight between amn and mother nature. A concrete drain's side sticks out past the eroded cliff by about two feet. Abbott said the same will happen with this project.A seawall has another negative effect, keeping sand from replenishing the beach below. The Coastal Commission made a compromise with SANDAG when they approved the project. SANDAG will build more beach access for pedestrians.Abbott says we need to think long-term, "let's just do a Band-Aid now like the one proposed here, pass it on to the next generation as if it will be simpler for them to solve than it is for us."SANDAG is planning for the long-term, saying they are still looking into options to move the railroad. DETROIT (AP) — General Motors says it will recall nearly 69,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric cars worldwide, and 51,000 of them in the U.S. because the batteries have caught fire in five of them.The company says it doesn't know yet what's causing the fires, but engineers are working to figure it out. Two people have suffered smoke inhalation due to the fires and a house set ablaze. U.S. safety regulators said the cars should be parked outdoors until recall repairs are done. Bolt Executive Chief Engineer Jesse Ortega says dealers will install software that limits charging to 90% of the battery's capacity until a permanent fix is developed. The recall covers Bolts from 2017 through 2019 model years.According to the Associated Press, Bolts that have caught on fire have battery cells that were made at an LG Chem factory in Ochang, South Korea, from May of 2016 to May of 2019. 887

(CNS) - A man was killed Monday morning when his car struck a fire hydrant and overturned off the side of a rural road east of El Cajon.The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Dehesa Road, west of Sloane Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.The driver was westbound on Dehesa Road when, for unknown reasons, his 2001 Toyota Camry crossed into the eastbound lanes, then struck a fire hydrant on the south side of the road and overturned, Garrow said.The motorist, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. 601

(KGTV) - This weekend 47 teams from high schools around San Diego and other parts of the US will compete in the FIRST California Robotics Regional Championships.The event brings the teens together to test their engineering and science skills. The teams get six weeks to design and build a robot to complete a handful of tasks.But the technology isn't cheap, so many teams turn to local tech companies for donations.San Diego based tech-giant Qualcomm is the title sponsor of the competition. They also give money to individual teams. Organizers say the companies see it as a way to excite teens about careers in STEM."They look at this as their future workforce," says Regional Director David Berggren. "If we can get these kids invested in STEM fields now, they're going to be great future employees, and it's money well spent for the company."The actual dollar amounts aren't given, but some schools say companies donate thousands of dollars each year. Logos on t-shirts and team booths show companies like Apple, Qualcomm, Viasat, 3M, Solar Turbines, BAE Systems, leidos and more have made donations.In addition to the money, companies donate time, providing volunteers to mentor the teens through the design and building process. They work hands on with the teams, giving kids an up close look at careers in STEM fields."It's eye-opening, it's surreal," says Southwest High School Senior Alejandro Gendrop. "To not only have someone aid us with how we're supposed to organize our team, put it together, but also to get a view into the industry and how they work and how similar our work is to theirs, it's great."The competition in Del Mar is Friday and Saturday, and admission is free.
