SAN DIEGO (CNS) - As the Valley Fire burned for a fifth straight day, blackening thousands of acres in rural eastern San Diego County, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued a consumer alert today warning that charging excessive prices for goods and services is illegal during a state of emergency.The state's price gouging law holds that it is unlawful to raise the price of items more than 10% after a state of emergency has been declared.Violations of the price gouging statute could carry penalties of up to one year in county jail and/or a ,000 fine. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Hundreds of thousands of San Diegans are expected to cast their ballots in person today, Election Day, with over 1 million ballots already received.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters said more than 1.1 million ballots have been received and nearly 60,000 residents have voted early in-person as of Monday, well more than double when compared to this point in the 2016 presidential election.Of the 1.95 million registered voters in the county, 1,114,627 had already turned in their ballots as of election eve. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Alliance of American Football team the San Diego Fleet will host a community drive Monday to collect donations of food, blood and necessities like clothes and soap.The event is the Fleet's first-ever donation drive since beginning play in the AAF in February. Donations made at the event will benefit the San Diego Blood Bank, the Alpha Project and the San Diego Food Bank. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An Animal Planet TV series focusing on the San Diego Zoo and the zoo's Safari Park will premiere Saturday, offering audiences a behind-the-scenes view of the zoo's daily activities."The Zoo: San Diego" will debut with two one-hour episodes titled "Welcome to Our World" and "New Day for an Old Tortoise." The series will follow animal care staff members, veterinarians, scientists and researchers at the zoo, Safari Park and the zoo's Institute for Conservation Research.The first episode will feature a baby klipspringer's birth and first days at the zoo, research into why a species of pit viper is having spinal issues and conservation work on the California condor population. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A tall, thin woman in a black hooded sweatshirt robbed a Normal Heights bank today.The thief, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, approached a service counter at the US Bank branch office in the 3500 block of El Cajon Boulevard and handed a teller a demand note shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.After the employee gave her an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber walked out of the bank and fled in an unknown direction, Officer Tony Martinez said. 498
