Workers at the Pennsylvania petrochemical plant where President Donald Trump spoke Tuesday were told that if they didn't attend the event, they either had to use paid time off or receive no pay for the day.At least some of the workers who attended the speech were instructed not to protest the President, who told the crowd of workers at the Royal Dutch Shell plant he would be imploring their union leaders to support his reelection. The instructions to the workers came in a memo, a copy of which was obtained by CNN's Polo Sandoval from a congressional source. That source was given the memo by a person in Beaver County, Pennsylvania -- the site of the plant."Your attendance is not mandatory. This will be considered an excused absence. However, those who are NOT in attendance will not receive overtime pay on Friday," read part of the memo.Shell spokesman Curtis Smith confirmed workers were told they would also miss out on some overtime pay if they skipped the event. Shell said it did not write the memo. The 1029

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. official says the Navy has upheld the firing of the aircraft carrier captain who urged faster action to protect his crew from a coronavirus outbreak. Captain Brett Crozier was fired back in April by Navy leaders who said he created a panic by sending his memo pleading for help to too many people. That decision is a complete reversal for Adm. Mike Gilday, the top Navy officer. Read the investigation here.Gilday also extended the blame for the ship's pandemic crisis and delayed the promotion of the one-star admiral who was also onboard. He concludes that both men made serious errors in judgment. The U.S. official spoke anonymously to describe a report not yet public. The spread of the coronavirus aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt while on deployment in the Pacific in March exploded into one of the biggest military leadership crises of recent years. 892
(AP) -- College is a major milestone for many U.S. teens, the first time they've been on their own. But this fall, amid pandemic restrictions, many are struggling. They face social distancing requirements, mask mandates and daily temperature checks, as well as quarantine and isolation. Not to mention online learning glitches and anxiety over whether to join partiers or hole up in dorm rooms or at home to stay safe. This is freshman year 2020 for many students. Many colleges are offering an array of services to help students cope. But says one California student, "I’ve completely forgotten about having a normal freshman year.” 641
