BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The value of yuan, China's currency Renminbi, hit new high against U.S. dollar Thursday as the central parity rate of the yuan was set at 6.6582 per U.S. dollar, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.Thursday's central parity rate beat the previous record of 6.6693 on Oct. 13.

BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's disaster relief authorities on Monday issued a national early disaster warning to gear up for super typhoon Megi, which is expected to batter China's southern coastal areas.The Ministry of Civil Affairs and the State Disaster Relief Commission, which agreed to activate the response, issued urgent notices to the civil affairs departments in the regions along the southern coast -- Hainan,Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian -- to prepare for relief operations.Possibly the strongest typhoon to hit China this year, Megi, which means "catfish" in Korean, is expected to reach the eastern South China Sea around Tuesday midnight, bringing strong winds and rain to the four regions along the coast.The notices ordered local civil affairs departments to closely monitor the typhoon, take precautionary measures against possible geological disasters and flooding in cities, and ensure that people in vulnerable areas are evacuated on time.The 13th typhoon of the year, Megi is packing winds of up to 260 km per hour, making it the strongest typhoon to appear in the northwest Pacific since 1990 and the strongest typhoon of the year worldwide, according to China's National Meteorological Center.

BERLIN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Germany pledged on Tuesday to enhance their efforts in coordinating macroeconomic policies and opposing trade and investment protectionism, according to a joint communique issued after a meeting between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his German counterpart Angela Merkel.The meeting, focusing on China's relations with Germany and Europe, was held at the Meseberg Palace, 70 km north of Germany's capital of Berlin, on the eve of the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit in Brussels.China and Germany are two of the world's largest exporters. China surpassed Germany last year to become the number one exporter.The communique said both sides agreed to attach importance to a series of dialogue mechanisms, including the strategic dialogue, the dialogue between nations ruled by law and human rights dialogue.China and Germany also agreed to expand political mutual trust and deepen strategic coordination between China and Europe. The two countries would like to promote Sino-European economic ties by enhancing negotiation and amplifying cooperation of mutual benefit.Germany would continue urging the EU to recognize China's full market economy status as soon as possible. BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Monday it would levy provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 37.5 percent on methanol imported from Indonesia, Malaysia and New Zealand.After a preliminary investigation, the MOC found the three countries had dumped methanol onto the market, causing material damage to Chinese manufacturers.The MOC has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging between 9.3 percent and 37.5 percent effective Oct. 28, according to a news release on its website.The MOC also concluded its investigation into imports from Saudi Arabia, though no evidence of dumping was found.Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, is used as a basic material to produce chemical products such as plastics, paint, construction materials and windshield cleaning fluid.
