SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Stephanie Eppig didn't sleep much last night.She was busy transforming her business model - under a very tight deadline.“I had to redo the entire schedule, try to line up a food partnership, change our hours,” she said.Eppig co-owns Eppig Brewing, with locations in vista and Point Loma.It was getting back up to speed just in time for July, its busiest month .Then, the devastating news Monday - the county - placing strict new limits on bars, breweries and wineries, to stop the increased spread of the coronavirus.The Vista location - back to Curbside pickup only. As for Point Loma, all guests coming will be required to order food, prepared by a food truck on site.“It's really a punch in the gut right now for us and our employees,” Eppig said. “It’s awful because this is our livelihood and this is our employees’ livelihood and we have zero control over our ability to run our business.”To make matters worse, Eppig already exhausted all the money from her federal Paycheck Protection Program loan - which got the brewery through the first shut down.There's no new agreement on a second round of stimulus.Attorney Kelly DuFord Williams, managing partner at Slate Law Group, says businesses can talk to their banks about lending opportunities - but that involves risk.“Either the government in California or if the Federal Government is going to make that decision, they need to fund another round of P.P.P., so that people can keep their jobs, and people's mental health and family life can have some sort of stability,” said DuFord Williams, who represents small businesses and restaurants.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Tuesday that he is hopeful federal officials will continue to provide economic support for impacted businesses and workers.The employees who went back to work and need unemployment once again will have to rectify for the benefits, the state Employment Development Department said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego winemakers say business is picking up, and there's a new way to for locals to get their foot in the door. A new report by the San Diego County Vintners Association says there are now 116 wineries in the region, with sales nearly doubling in the last year. The industry now has about 700 workers in the county. Now, the association has teamed up with Cuyamaca College for a Viticulture Technician Apprenticeship program. Participants work 1,500 hours a year, learning the ins and outs of winemaking. They earn an hour the first year and the second, with opportunities to make more doing side jobs once they get enough experience. "You can't really sell wine unless you know where it's coming from and what goes into it, creating the story behind the wine itself," said Kaylan Wedemeyer, who is an apprentice for La Mesa's San Pasqual Winery.Linda McWilliams, who owns San Pasqual, said many local wineries are mom and pops, but that apprentices can also grow with them."I think we'll find places for the people who graduate, and then we'll build together," she said. The program is accepting applications ahead of interviews in December, and January starts.  1227

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's first nonstop flights to Montreal will begin in summer of 2020, according to Canadian airline Air Transat.The airline announced Tuesday it will launch direct flights between Montreal, Quebec, and San Diego next summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several San Diego families got their loved ones home in time for the holidays.The Crew of the Future USS Tulsa arrived in San Diego Wednesday.  The ship is a brand new littoral combat ship that completed its maiden voyage from the Austal Shipyard in Mobile Alabama.The crew, from San Diego, had been gone for eight months. Before arriving in San Diego, the ship made several port calls and completed a successful transit through the Panama Canal.The ship’s commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2019, in San Francisco.  That is when the vessel will officially join the fleet. 628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University's Interfraternity Council voted this week to ban social gatherings on campus this fall.The Thursday night vote bans all IFC social events and requires that all IFC recruitment events be held virtually to curb the spread of COVID-19. IFC's social moratorium also prevents fraternities from hosting any formal or informal events at chapter facilities or in satellite houses."The fact of the matter is that COVID-19 is currently a very real concern in our SDSU community," Lee Abed, IFC president, said. “Because of this, we would like to ensure that our community sees COVID-19 have as little of an impact as possible. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to halt all social events effective immediately.”The ban only applies to IFC members and does not affect College Panhellenic Association, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, or the United Sorority and Fraternity Council. Any chapters that violate the guidelines will be referred to the IFC judicial board for review, the school says.With some exceptions, most of SDSU's courses will be held online this fall, though some students will still be living in on-campus housing or in the surrounding College Area during the semester. 1256
