In the race towards a COVID-19 vaccine, there have been a lot of hurdles. In the spring months, it was learning about a novel virus: how it spreads and affects the body. Then, it was developing a vaccine that was not only effective but safe. Now that Pfizer and Moderna have both announced vaccines with nearly 95-percent efficacy, the challenge is not developing one, but rather getting people to actually get the vaccines.“Maybe 10-15 percent of people are just never going to go get a vaccine because they feel strongly against it,” said Katy Milkman, a professor at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.Earlier in the summer, 72 percent of Americans said they would take a COVID-19 vaccine, according to a study by the Pew Research Center. But in the months that have followed, that number has steadily declined. Now, according to a recent Gallup poll conducted in early November, 42 percent of Americans said they would not get an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine. 1001
It's been said that America is more divided now than ever before. The country currently finds itself in two camps with little hope of bridging the ideological gap. Both sides seemingly have the same set of facts but have come to two completely different conclusions — the consequences of the post-truth world.2018: The year of "alternative facts," where "truth isn't truth."And all of this chaos seemingly stems from one person with a Twitter account: @rebeccareilly__, or "becky."On Aug. 24, becky sent a tweet that would eventually garner more than 20,000 retweets and 34,000 likes as of Aug. 31. The tweet asked a simple question and had a single photo attached."Is this a door or a beach??? Hahahaha????" she wrote. 757
In many states, there's no punishment for adultery. But in North Carolina, it can be a serious offense, as one man came to realize last Thursday.A judge ordered Francisco Huizar III to pay .8 million to Keith King, whose wife he had been seeing for 16 months. Why so much? Well, most of the money awarded consisted of punitive damages, solely meant to penalize the defendant. But about .2 million of it was in compensatory, or tangible damages.King's attorney, Joanne Foil, said that after finding out about the ongoing infidelity of his wife, Danielle Swords, his company lost revenue and an employee --- his wife. The pair eventually separated.King filed the suit on grounds of criminal conversation, alienation of affection, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and assault and battery. 853
