BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China (PBOC), or the central bank, announced Friday it would continue the country's moderately easy monetary policy while making it better-targeted and more flexible in the coming months of this year.The PBOC made the announcement in its report on China's financial stability, which was released on the PBOC's website.The PBOC said in the next stage it needs to skillfully handle the relationship between maintaining steady and rapid economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations.Chinese banks should continue supporting the country's economic restructuring, guard against risks, change profit structures, and improve the capital replenishing and restriction mechanism, the central bank said in the announcement.The announcement noted that local government debt was rising quickly, corporate liquidity was decreasing with a high current debt ratio, and credit card advances were increasing despite mounting financial assets held by residents and the low debt level.It said the global financial crisis had revealed limitations and gaps in the existing regulatory system. To prevent systemic risks, the central bank would combine macro and micro-prudential supervision in its policy package.

FUZHOU, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of thousands of residents have been evacuated as Megi, the 13th typhoon to hit China this year, made landfall in Zhangzhou City in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.As of 2 p.m., 272,300 people have been evacuated, according to officials at the provincial department of civil affairs.Also, there was no immediate report of casualties in Fujian. But disasters caused by typhoon Megi have claimed 11 lives in Taiwan, across the Taiwan Strait.The typhoon has weakened into a strong tropical storm after landing at Liu'ao Town of Zhangpu County, southern Fujian, packing winds of up to 140 km/h.The storm is expected to move northward at 10 km per hour and further weaken to become a tropical depression, according to the National Meteorological Center.The cloud cluster brought by the storm, however, will be hovering over the southern coast of Fujian for some time and is expected to dump more rain in the areas, according to the Fujian provincial meteorological bureau.Zhangpu received 243 mm of rainfall, and neighboring Yunxiao County recorded 332 mm between 8 a.m. Friday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday.The precipitation in cities of Zhangzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou will reach 100 mm in the next 12 hours, the provincial meteorological bureau said.The storm will also be responsible for heavy rains in Fujian's neighboring provinces of Guangdong and Zhejiang.Influenced by the typhoon, 79 flights at the airport of Xiamen City, also in Fujian, had been canceled as of 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and the Dadeng Bridge, which connects Xiamen City and Dadeng Island, has been closed since 7 a.m.The Ministry of Civil Affairs said late Saturday that it has launched an emergency response by sending working groups to coordinate disaster relief efforts.Also, Sun Chunlan, Communist Party chief in Fujian, has ordered local officials to be on high alert against possible heavy rains and geological disasters.

MATYBULAK RANGE, Kazakhstan, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ma Xiaotian, chief commander of the 1,000 Chinese troops taking part in the "Peace Mission 2010" in south Kazakhstan said Thursday that the ongoing military exercise of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is purely a strategic action against terrorism.MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO REGIONAL, WORLD PEACE"Peace Mission 2010" involves 5,000 troops from five of the six SCO member states -- China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan -- from Sept. 9 to 25. AMMAN, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Middle East envoy Wu Sike on Tuesday discussed regional peace with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Amman, stressing the importance of collective efforts of all concerned parties.Wu said China is concerned about the direct Palestinian-Israeli talks which are suspended now, adding China hopes that all parties could proceed from long-term interests and work together to help direct talks to resume and to achieve positive results as soon as possible.He also urged Israel to respond actively to the settlement issue to create the atmosphere for the resumption of direct talks.Judeh highlighted Beijing's role in the Middle East peace process and expressed Jordan's willingness to strengthen cooperation between the two countries to save the peace process.Jordan is the first stop of Wu's Middle East trip, which also includes the Palestinian territories, Israel, Turkey and Egypt.
