(CNN) -- An American woman has been charged with human trafficking after allegedly trying to smuggle a six-day-old baby out of the Philippines.At a press conference by the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Thursday, International Airport Investigation Division chief Manuel Dimaano said the 43-year-old U.S. woman had used a sling bag to allegedly hide the baby while passing through immigration, and did not provide any documentation for the child.Dimaano said that after immigration, the woman allegedly removed the baby from the bag and was carrying it when she tried to board her Delta Airlines flight at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport.Philippines authorities were contacted when the woman couldn't provide documentation for the child when asked by Delta Airlines crew at the boarding gate."She has been charged with a violation of the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003," NBI spokesperson Auralyn Pascual said."The child's situation must have been very difficult during the time that he was put inside that bag."Dimaano said the mother had been contacted by authorities and would be charged. Police have not been able to find the child's father, he added.The Philippines Bureau of Immigration first announced on Wednesday that it had detained the woman. CNN Philippines reported that when discovered, she claimed to be the child's aunt.The NBI said the woman allegedly carried the baby from Davao to Manila, before attempting to fly out of the country. She allegedly told authorities that the baby's mother was an unmarried single parent, but gave no information on whether the child had been given or sold.Investigations into the case are ongoing. 1696

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – American students who are on a budget are opting to get their medical school education south of the border.Carlos Rodriguez is a young American man who got his white coat in Tijuana after failing to get into any U.S. medical schools. "When you receive that rejection letter, you feel like everything you did was for nothing," he says, adding, "When I saw this opportunity to go to Mexico, I took it. I was like, 'This is all [I've] got.'" MAKING IT IN SAN DIEGO: San Diego community college programs open up job opportunities According to The Princeton Review, fewer than half of all applicants get accepted to U.S. medical schools. Those who are accepted will pay an average of more than ,000 a year for private school. Rodriguez enrolled in a private school in Mexico where he says his tuition is only about 0 per month, and the cost of living is even lower. "My electricity is 20 pesos, which is not even equivalent to a dollar or two," he adds. "It's going to be a little fraction in comparison to the American tuition fees," says Dr. Eduardo Tanori, a professor at UC San Diego. He helps international medical school graduates prepare for the U.S. board exams. His students come from around the world, including Mexico. "We have several very good and competitive medical schools in Mexico," he adds. Making It in San Diego: Renting is cheaper than buying a home, study shows Dr. Tanori says the cost of medical education in Mexico is low, but the quality is generally high. He tells 10News that his students' passing rate for U.S. licensing exams is more than 90%. Another benefit to Mexican medical school is the ability to become a bilingual provider, says Rodriguez. "Medical terms in Spanish are probably a letter or two different from English, so it got easier. Now, new research says their personalities end up matching, too!Dog owner Michael Wolz says he shares similar personality traits to his 9-year-old golden doodle, Jack. "He's a big, lazy guy. Likes to lay around,” Wolz describes of Jack. “He likes to bounce off the walls when he gets a chance, too. But other than that, he's just trying to take it easy." A new study out by Michigan State University found that it's actually very common for pet owners and their dogs to take on each other’s personalities. Pet owner Annie Ernst feels she and her dog, Harper, are one in the same. "I always want to be in the know about everything and be involved and go up to people and say hi, and she is the same way," Ernst says. Ernst says her and Harper were compatible from the start. "I feel like she picked us," she says. Both Ernst and Wolz say they love sharing similar personality traits with their dogs and feels it brings them closer together. 1033
