The cougar spotted traveling through Brookfield, Wisconsin last week was caught on video on someone's front porch.Surveillance video shared with Scripps station TMJ4 in Milwaukee by Dan and Bridget Guerndt shows the cougar coming out from trees. The cougar goes up the residents' driveway and puts its paws on the front window. The footage was captured at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 18.On Saturday, a Brookfield resident called the Department of Natural Resources when they saw a cougar lying in their backyard, under a pine tree.Though they confirmed the animal was a cougar, officers were unable to neutralize it because of the surrounding homes and thick brush.DNR agents went back to the scene on Sunday morning, but the cougar was gone. The fifty pounds and approximately 1-year-old cougar was tracked, but the trail was lost.Experts believe this cougar was the same one that was spotted in Washington County two weeks ago. 967

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has asked the public’s help in identifying members of a female gang who have been spotted in Middle Tennessee.  The FBI said Felony Lane Gang members use rental cars with tinted windows to watch you and your car in parking lots at gyms, daycares or anywhere someone might leave a purse in a car. They have been spotted in Nashville, Mt. Juliet, Gallatin and several other towns around the Metro area. When they see an opportunity, they'll swipe IDs, credit cards and checkbooks. Then, they hand all of that over to prostitutes and drug users they recruit to impersonate victims. Those women take stolen checks and IDs to multiple banks to withdraw large amounts of money -- all before the victims have a chance to close their accounts.According to authorities, they use the farthest window from the teller in bank drive-thru lanes. This drive-thru lane is commonly known as the "felony lane," which is what inspired their nickname.Investigators said they’re known to use wigs and other disguises to impersonate their victims at banks. If you have information call the FBI office in Memphis at 615-232-7500.  1158

The gluttony known as the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest will go on this Saturday, but like many events being held this year, will not feature a live audience. While the event will be held at a private location in NYC, it’s unclear if all of the competitors will be able to make it.Last week, New York began requiring visitors from states with large numbers of COVID-19 cases to self-quarantine for 14 days. For perennial champion Joey Chestnut, he was fortunate to arrive in NYC in time not to be required to quarantine. Chestnut is coming into the 2020 competition after consuming 71 hot dogs in 10 minutes during the 2019 event. His 2019 performance was just shy of his record of 74 hot dogs set in 2018.“I arrived to NYC early because of risk of visitors to NY needing quarantine, my last practices were scrapped. Staying positive and focused on the 4th,” Chestnut said. The competition will air live on ESPN starting at noon on Saturday.“We’re ecstatic to make the announcement that the Hot Dog-Eating Contest will take place this year,” states James Walker, Nathan’s Famous Senior Vice President, Restaurants. “2020 has been a year for the history books, and the realization that this storied July 4th tradition would be able to occur, is a great feeling. With that being said, our country and our world has endured so much in the last couple of months, that we’d be remiss if we didn’t use this moment to honor those that have done so much for each of us during this time.” 1493

The divisive presidential election found students at Westminster High School in Maryland split over a controversial poster that some saw as a symbol of hope. Others viewed it as a knock on Donald Trump. But other symbols like the Confederate flag also sparked unrest at the school."Actually, we had a bunch of people having flags connected to their trucks.  People wearing it all the time,” said Jakob Hill, a 2017 graduate, “It was actually surprising to see it, but it was in the schools. I have a bunch of friends that are still in Westminster and they still see it."But starting today, they won't see it anymore.Superintendent of Schools Stephen Guthrie says both the rebel flag and the Nazi swastika are now banned anywhere on school property."While we were getting complaints from students who were not only offended. It goes much deeper than offense,” Guthrie said. “They really were losing the ability to do their work. This represented hatred to them. They thought it advocated violence. So we went through a process with our attorneys and legally to determine if we could make decisions that would limit that dress."Guthrie points to the move to remove Confederate statues from public lands and the rally that turned deadly in Virginia as evidence the change was needed."We have the Charlottesville issue with the swastika and the Confederate battle flag were side by side with acts of violence and hatred and intolerance, and so we saw this change happening around us," Guthrie said.It is a bid to prevent symbols of hate that can lead to violence."You never know who you're going to offend and it's just safe if you try not to wear them," Melanie Morel of Westminster said.Violence has already erupted among students inside the schools when symbols divide them."We had a couple of fights last year about it actually,” said Hill, “People using racist terms and all that and people taking it under a different context."The superintendent says when students violate the dress code his hope is to make it a teachable moment, rather than a punitive one, in hopes of bringing students closer together. 2160
