Many dads were happy to take their loved ones out for a hearty meal, now that COVID-19 restrictions have become a little looser.All around town, there were lines out the door for Father's Day brunch. This was a welcome sight for San Diego restaurant owners."We missed mother's day, and we missed spring break," Johnny Rivera, co-owner of Hash House A Go Go in Hillcrest said. "These are the acorns in our business that we like to gather. And now that it's Father's Day, we feel like kind of back to normal today."During last month's Mother's Day, restaurants were only allowed to offer curbside pick up and delivery due to County Health Department rules. But now that dining restrictions have eased up, the 'Papa Bears' were ready for their big outing."They seem like they're coming out of hibernation a little bit," Rivera laughed.Some were still a bit hesitant to dine out."We were a little skeptical about it, but we still enjoy going out here and there," father, Alan Valdez said. He and his family were dining at Breakfast Republic in Downtown San Diego.Others were publicly ready to celebrate fatherhood with their loved ones."We were all waiting by our cars," a diner at Hash House A Go Go said. "We got a phone call, and everybody kept their distance while we were waiting." Three generations of his family were dining out, after getting a last-minute table at the restaurant. Of course, menu items were all dad-sized and dad-approved."Pork ribs and eggs, chicken wings and eggs, fried chicken, waffle, all things dad needs," Rivera shared."You can take a shower in this bowl, man!" the diner at Hash House said.The best part of the day?"Just hang out, take a day off work," Valdez said."I got my family. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A fishing shop in Kearny Mesa was burglarized early Sunday morning. The break-in was caught on the San Diego Tackle Traders' surveillance cameras just before 4:30 a.m. The video shows two suspects, wearing masks and gloves, getting into the shop using a crowbar. The two people can be seen walking into the business, on Convoy Court, with a cooler and some type of container, heading towards the back of the shop. The owners of San Diego Tackle Traders say the suspects got away with several fishing reels and rods, a total value of ,000 to 0,00. The owners tell 10News this is a big blow to their small business. They say they work by appointment only and don't advertise their address online because of the value of the items they sell. The owners are now hoping people will keep an eye out for anyone trying to sell brand new fishing equipment. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police Department. 964

(KGTV) - A new website from the City of San Diego's Planning Department is asking residents to help re-imagine the Clairemont neighborhood.Clairemontplan.org is like an online public meeting, where people can look at different ideas for adding housing and retail to the neighborhood and weigh in on which ones they like the most."We understand not everyone can make an in-person meeting at the time we schedule it for or attend a city council hearing in the middle of the day," says City Planning Director Mike Hansen.As MTS builds a new trolley line through Clairemont along the I-5, the area is coming up with a new community plan. The city wants to add housing and retail to the area to help meet new goals for housing, transportation and climate change.To do that, they're looking to add density to the neighborhood.The website identifies eight areas of Clairemont that could be redeveloped. It asks users to make changes to at least three areas while adding 5,000 new homes. At least 40% of the houses need to be near the trolley.To help, it offers basic renderings of what different development could look like in each neighborhood."We wanted to try to find something that allowed people to get into the weeds if they wanted to," says Tait Galloway, the Program Manager who helped design the website. "But, this still allows them to do it within 15-20 minutes."The website will be available until March 14th. After that, the answers will be collected and used as the city devises the new Clairemont Community Plan. They hope to present it by the end of 2020.City leaders hope this will become a template for other neighborhoods and a way to get more people involved in the process. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A new rule from the California Air Resources Board could wind up costing San Diego MTS hundreds of millions of dollars.CARB announced a series of regulations last week, all aimed at making bus fleets more environmentally friendly.One rule says all buses need to be zero-emission by 2040.That could be costly.Right now, SDMTS uses Compressed Natural Gas in their buses, which they say burns much cleaner than diesel fuel.Those buses cost 7,000 each, and MTS buys about 50 new buses each year.New electric, zero-emission buses will cost about 2,000 each.Replacing the entire fleet with electric buses will cost 7.5 million more than CNG buses."The technology is relatively new, the costs are high right now," says MTS Spokesperson Rob Schupp. "I think CARB is looking into the future. As we encourage more and more manufacturers to build these buses, the costs will come down."San Diego MTS is already putting six electric buses in their fleet this summer as part of a pilot program.They'll use those to test how the electric buses operate across several terrains and distances in San Diego.They also received a grant to help buy 11 more for a South Bay Bus Rapid Transit line that will open in 3 years.Beyond that, MTS says they may use a combination of state funding, grants and possibly rate increases to pay for the new electric buses.Schupp says the state has plans to chip in about 0,000 per bus.The cost of new buses isn't the only concern about going electric.MTS says they need to look into how much electricity will cost compared to natural gas.They also may need to build and install charging stations around town, because the buses may not be able to go as far as they would using gas.Despite all that, Schupp says the MTS Board fully supports the change. 1812
