SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy SEAL was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to molesting his relative in California.Gregory Kyle Seerden pled guilty to seven counts of molestation following a preliminary hearing in which the victim testified. According to the court, the abuse happened while Seerden was a Navy SEAL stationed in San Diego. "We can start healing today by making him answer for his crimes every day for the rest of his pathetic existence," Alicia Reppert said, reading a prepared testimony.Reppert is Seerden's ex-wife. She said on the stand, that her daughter endured abuse from her father, starting from when she was five years old. The Deputy District Attorney said the girl mustered up the courage to report her father's crimes in 2015. At the pretrial hearing in May, the now 12-year-old testified in front of a judge. The testimony was so powerful, Seerden pleaded guilty to seven of the nine counts of molestation, without going to trial. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Seerden is already serving a 27-year federal sentence for manufacturing child pornography. In 2017, Seerden was accused of of raping a woman while serving in the Navy in Virginia. When authorities searched his cell phone, they found child pornography, including a video of him abusing another 5 year-old relative, while she slept. "In California, you can use that evidence to corroborate molestation in this case," Deputy DA Amy Colby said. Seerden was arrested on April 3, 2017, for the case involving child pornography. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat and power boat collided near the Coronado Bridge Sunday afternoon, injuring four people, according to San Diego Harbor Police.A good Samaritan drove by and noticed people floating in life jackets as their boat took on water. He picked up nine people and ferried them to Pepper Park. "It's just what you do you're a boater, it's what you're supposed to do, you help out on the water, people have helped us and we've helped other people," Kary Brownlee said. The damaged powerboat, a Bayliner, was towed back to the Pepper Park launch ramp where four passengers were evaluated for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital. The sailboat cruised back to Coronado on its own power."All it takes is a split second, when the captain is not paying attention that could cause a collision," boat safety advocate Amos Zolna said. He explained sail boats generally have the right of way, as they are harder to maneuver, compared to a power boat. Zolna said it's hard to navigate near the bridge, due to the large pillars that create blind spots.Harbor Police reported the 911 call at 1:28 p.m. They are investigating the cause of the crash and if any alcohol was involved. 1204
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego company is looking to capitalize on a new law that legalizes the growing of hemp in the United States. Medical Marijuana Inc., based in Sorrento Valley, already has a line of CBD products but has to import the raw hemp from outside the United States. That will soon change. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill. Inside the bi-partisan, 7 billion bill was a revision to the federal laws on hemp, which had largely outlawed commercial production since the 1930s. The bill also removed hemp from being classified as a schedule 1 drug, the DEA category for substances with “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” “We really think this is going to be a tremendous growth market over the next three to five years,” said Stuart Titus, president and CEO of Medical Marijuana Inc. Founded in 2009, the company has several lines of CBD-based products for both humans and animals. With the new laws, he says they hope to start using hemp grown in the United States for the products they sell here. 1081
