At least 2.4 million more Americans were impacted by an Equifax data breach that happened last year, though those customers had less data stolen.The Associated Press reported the newly announced customers had only their names and a partial driver's license number stolen. The original data breach involved 145.5 million Americans who had their Social Security numbers impacted.In the driver's license theft, the attackers were unable to get the state where the license was issued and the dates of issuance and expiration. 529
Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday that Home Depot is sending 45 tractor-trailers containing disaster-relief supplies to Florida communities impacted by Hurricane Irma and pledging even more supplies before the end of the week.Millions of Floridians are still without power and thousands more have been displaced by flooding or storm damage.Bondi said the Home Depot trucks are carrying cases of water, plywood, generators and electrical cords, among other items.The supplies, headed to South Florida, will be sold at normal prices.Bondi's office said the home building company is shipping additional supplies in the coming days with more than a million bottles of water expected by the end of the week.The state said Home Depot will sell the water for .97 a case.Florida’s Price Gouging Hotline remains open during this emergency declaration covering all 67 counties. 914
ATTICA, NY -- She has a vision for design and spent the last two months renovating her own camper-turned-tiny home called Camp Hygge. Her name is Lauren Nelson and she's 11 years old."I love this, I love renovating. I was very motivated with this camper, I really wanted a place where I could hang out . . . like my own house," said Nelson. Inside Lauren's renovated camper It all started when Lauren was flipping through the pages of an American Girl Doll magazine."She showed us a 0 little VW bus that they sell, my husband was like 'that's ridiculous, you could buy your own camper for that price,'" said Aimee Nelson, her mother.So she did just that. She saved up some money and started looking for her camper. A neighbor just down the street had one that piqued her interest. Lauren renovated the camper with help from family and friends "And then one day, up popped a for sale sign and she squealed the whole way home," said her mother.She then started negotiating. She had saved up 0 between the money she would have used to go to 4-H camp and some that she raised at garage sales."It wasn't very hard. He said 0 and I said 0 because that was the money I had in my bank account and he said sold," said Nelson.Then it was time to renovate, which wasn't easy. There was a lot of deep cleaning and they even found a family of mice, but that didn't stop her. The renovation only cost her around 0, her mother says she was frugal when shopping with a vision for her Beachy Boho-themed camper."She has three envelopes that she puts her money in, give save and spend and I think she made a really good choice. She now says she's part of the tiny home nation."Lauren was inspired by HGTV's Tiny House Hunters. She researched on Pinterest and got the name, Camp Hygge, from a Simplisafe TV commercial."It means very comfortable and safe. It has its own kitchen and bathroom," said Nelson. Lauren spends 5 days a week in her new camper Now she spends five days a week in her camper. She was able to turn her summer around and hopes to inspire others to do the same. Aimee says they've already received messages from others who have done the same thing after hearing about Camp Hygge."If you're looking to have some big plans in the future, you should go out and do it. Make it happen," said Nelson.Lauren hopes to have a career in home renovation or forensic science, maybe both, she says. She's still doing it, but the need is so great that more and more young people are called into the role as well and that's going to continue well after the COVID pandemic,” said John Schall, CEO of the Caregiver Action Network.Nearly half of the so-called "sandwich generation" expect to be a caregiver in some capacity for six or more years.The added financial strain is one concern. Schall says out of pocket expenses can be about a thousand dollars a month.More than half of these caregivers say they're spending more than usual per month to care for others as a result of the pandemic. As national rates of hospitalizations, deaths and positive cases of the coronavirus spike, CDC data shows Americans of color who contract the virus are more likely to end up in the hospital.The hospitalization rate overall for Hispanic or Latino COVID-19 patients is about 4.2 times higher than white patients. For American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Black patients, they are roughly 4 times more likely to be hospitalized than white patients.Patients between the ages of 18-49 who are Hispanic, Latino, American Indian or Alaska native are 7 times more likely than white patients of the same age to be hospitalized. Black patients between 18-and-49 years old are nearly 5 times more likely than white patients of the same age to be hospitalized.The findings are part of the CDC’s weekly report on the coronavirus pandemic in America.Weekly rates of hospitalizations have been increasing this fall since late September. Overall, the increase has been driven by patients who are older than 50. However, the CDC finds that weekly hospitalization rates among children have been increased for the last two weeks.The nationwide percent of positivity rate for specimens tested for COVID-19 is at 10.5 percent for the week ending November 7. It was 8.4 percent the week before.As of November 17, the U.S. has reported more than 11.2 million cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic started in March.
