The Emmy Awards will be held live, and socially distanced, Sunday night to celebrate excellence in the television industry. It will be the first big Hollywood event broadcasted live amid the pandemic.Jimmy Kimmel will host from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The drop in gun sales has lead to deep job cuts at Sturm RugerOn Wednesday, the company reported a 21% sales decline for 2017. Thursday it disclosed that it has cut 700 jobs, or more than a quarter of its staff, over the last 13 months. That leaves it with 1,750 workers."When we reduced production in 2017, we had to make some difficult decisions," said CEO Chris Killoy, on a call with analysts Thursday. Many of the jobs were eliminated through attrition. The company also had 320 temporary employees a year ago who have since left the company. In January, the company needed to further reduce staff, prompting it to lay off an additional 60 workers.Gun sales have been sharply lower across the industry since President Donald Trump was elected. Fears that Hillary Clinton would win the presidency and seek tougher gun control laws drove record sales through 2016, and encouraged retailers to stock up on inventory. With the election of Trump and Republicans in control of both houses of Congress, those fears greatly abated.Killoy said that 2017 FBI background checks, which correspond roughly to purchases, fell 11%. Retailers also cut back on purchases to reduce inventory."2017 was a challenging year for the firearm industry," Killoy. But he said as a result of the job cuts, "we're better positioned to compete in 2018."There has been more talk about gun control in the week since the shooting of 17 students and staff at a Florida high school, led by many of the students and families from that school.President Trump and some Republicans, including Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, have voiced new support for some gun control measures. The funeral for Rayshard Brooks — an Atlanta man who was killed during an altercation with police earlier this month — took place Tuesday in a church with connections to the Civil Rights movement.Brooks' funeral was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta — the same church where Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. served as a co-pastor between 1960 and 1968.Dr. Bernice King, one of Martin Luther King's daughters, spoke during Brooks' funeral.Actor, writer and producer Tyler Perry provided the funds for Brooks' funeral. The funeral comes after an hours-long public viewing on Monday afternoon.Brooks was shot and killed in a Wendy's parking lot by former Atlanta Police Officer Garrett Rolfe on June 12. Rolfe's partner, Officer Devin Brosnan, first encountered Brooks after Brooks had fallen asleep in his car while waiting in the restaurant's drive-thru line.Rolfe arrived on the scene a few moments later. The officers subjected Brooks to a field sobriety test, which he failed. He later offered to lock his car and walk home, but Brosnan and Rolfe told Brooks they would be taking him into custody.As the officers attempted to handcuff Brooks, a struggle ensued. Brooks was able to grab Brosnan's stun gun and attempted to flee the scene. As he fled, Brooks appeared to point the stun gun in the direction of the police. That's when Rolfe shot Brooks in the back. Brooks later died in surgery at a local hospital.Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard says Rolfe kicked Brooks after shooting him but before calling for emergency medical help. He also alleged that Brosnan stood on Brooks' shoulder. Both face charges in connection with Brooks' death, with Rolfe facing murder charges. 1701

The brother of the accused Parkland shooter has been involuntarily committed to a mental facility, sources tell Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida.Nikolas Cruz’s brother was involuntarily committed to a mental institution, under Florida's Baker Act.The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office detained Cruz Friday afternoon, according to sources. The Broward Sheriff’s Office placed the Baker Act on Cruz. Under Florida's Baker Act, an adult can be held for an involuntary exam for up to 72 hours under the law. The Federal Reserve will almost certainly raise interest rates Wednesday at Jerome Powell's first meeting as chairman.The question is what his plans will be for the central bank later this year, as the Fed wrestles with how to prevent the economy from overheating.Some hints may come when Powell and members of the Federal Open Market Committee release their revised economic forecasts. The Fed is likely to stick with its three planned rate hikes this year for now, but may hint at a fourth.The Fed will release its rate hike decision and updated forecasts at 2 p.m. ET.
