MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) — Speaking to a largely maskless crowd at Mount Rushmore, President Donald Trump says protesters have waged “a merciless campaign to wipe out our history” amid demonstrations against racial injustice and police brutality. The sharp rebuke in a pre-holiday address Friday to mark the nation’s independence follows weeks of nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis. Some demonstrators have also destroyed or damaged Confederate monuments and statues honoring those who have benefited from slavery. Trump says, “This movement is openly attacking the legacies of every person on Mount Rushmore.""The radical ideology attacking our country advances under the banner of 'social justice.' But in truth, it would demolish both justice and society," Trump said. "They want to silence us. But we will not be silenced."Trump says he will establish a “National Garden of American Heroes,” which he is describing as “a vast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans who ever lived.”Trump made the announcement as he opened the Fourth of July weekend with a speech and fireworks at the iconic Mount Rushmore. He led into the announcement by paying tribute to a litany of American icons, from political figures like Ulysses S. Grant and Frederick Douglass to entertainers like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. The executive order released Friday by the White House says the garden will feature statues of several presidents as well as other historic notables, including Davy Crockett, Amelia Earhart, Billy Graham, Harriet Tubman and Orville and Wilbur Wright. 1664

MT. LAGUNA, Calif. (KGTV) - A new destination outside San Diego's City limits is challenging people to unglue from technology and live with less. It's called Tiny House Block and is currently made up of 10 tiny homes nestled in Mt. Laguna. "The vision of Tiny House Block is to create a place where community converges, where we celebrate unity through diversity, where we all get to experience our shared humanity," said Jon Block, who co-founded the village with his sister. "Some wise people realized, enough of the madness already! And decided, not for financial reasons, but for happiness, peace of mind, pure lifestyle choice, decided to go smaller."Each of the tiny houses has a theme, including Farmhouse, Stargazer, and Sedona Spirit; they range from 170 sq/ft to 500 sq/ft.A customer favorite is Greenhouse, a tiny house dedicated to cannabis, conversation, and community. "We are creating a resort village here, we want people to have a certain vibration, and they're here to really get away, and they want to connect with other people on a similar type of wavelength," said Block. Block hopes to have 25 homes in the village by next year and invites visitors to stay for a few nights or long term. You can book your tiny house getaway on Airbnb. NASA could make history on Tuesday as their spacecraft, OSIRIS-REx, will attempt to land on an ancient asteroid 200 million miles away from Earth.OSIRIS-REx launched in 2016. It arrived at the asteroid, named Bennu, in 2018 and it’s been mapping out the surface working to pick the best location to land ever since. The mission’s operations are headquartered at the University of Arizona. The mission will begin at 2:50 p.m. Arizona time on Tuesday. At 3:12 p.m., OSIRIS-REx will finally touch down on Bennu and collect a sample before heading back to Earth. Dr. Lori Glaze with NASA tells ABC15 the sample will allow researchers to study the ancient secrets of our solar system. She says Bennu also has a 1-in-2,700 chance of impacting Earth in about 150 years or so, so this mission can help researchers work to prevent that.“Helping us refine and reduce the uncertainties on Bennu’s orbit so we can better predict more precisely not only when it might intercept with Earth, but what the probability of that intersection is,” Dr. Glaze said. “So the mission's been critically important for refining Bennu’s orbit so we can help protect ourselves in the future.”Watch a live stream of the event in the player below. 1222
