SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fans of Hello Kitty can catch the character's popular, pink cafe rolling through the North County and South Bay in the next month for the first time. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will be rolling through Carlsbad on Jan. 12 at The Shoppes at Carlsbad from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fans can catch the colorful cat near Regal Cinemas and Luna Grill.On Feb. 2, the truck is also scheduled to bring its delicious treats and trinkets to Chula Vista at the Otay Ranch Town Center.RELATED: San Diego Restaurant Week 2019: Over 180 restaurants taking partFans of the truck can grab a bite of tasty goodies, including a giant Hello Kitty cookie, macaroon set, and lunchbox with confetti popcorn. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time in 40 days, San Diego County has fallen below the state's County Monitoring List threshold for coronavirus case rate.San Diego County was placed on the list on July 3 after it crossed the state metric of 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days. Wednesday, the county reported a case rate of 94.1.The county will have to remain off the watch list for another three days to get off California's watch list and an additional 14 days in order for local schools grades 7th through 12th can return to in-person instruction.No other businesses are slated to be allowed to reopen after that 17-day window unless the state provides more guidance for business reopenings, according to the county.San Diego County reported 236 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, a 3% positive rate out of 7,339 reported tests. Six new deaths were also reported, including five women and one man who died between July 28 and Aug. 11. All of the victims had underlying conditions, county officials said.The county also reported two new community outbreaks, one in a grocery setting and one in a manufacturing setting.While the county's case rate has fallen, it continues to be high above its community outbreak threshold of seven in seven days. Currently, the county has 26 community outbreaks in a week. A community outbreak is three or more coronavirus cases in the same setting in people of different households in the past two weeks.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said of the drop in the county's case rate: "San Diegans should be proud of the progress we have made, but we have to recognize the goal is not just to get our cases down, it is to keep them down. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Home prices in the US fell in May while San Diego home prices remained flat and rents rose sharply, according to a new Zillow report. Zillow says the median home in San Diego is now worth 1,000. In the US, the median home is worth 6,800, down 0.1 percent from April. Overall, Zillow says home values in the US grew by more than 5 percent year-over-year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Heavy rain over the last few years has brought an unexpected splash of color to portions of San Diego.For the last month or so, Rainbow Eucalyptus trees have been shedding their bark, revealing a multi-colored trunk."It's outstanding," says Peter Fritsch, who walks by a handful of the trees along Sports Arena Boulevard. "I love the contrast between the gold and the red and the gray and sometimes blue."RELATED: Interactive map: Exploring San Diego's history, culture through street artHorticulture experts say the colors are more pronounced in tropical climates, but here in San Diego, you can still see a rainbow on the trees."As it ages, the stuff that doesn't look as colorful, has been oxidized somewhat, it peels off," says Bradley Brown, a Master Arborist with Tree Life Consulting. "Over time, the new bark will have those varying shades of color."According to the city, there are Rainbow Eucalyptus trees in Balboa Park, Sports Arena, the San Diego Zoo and parts of Mission Bay. He'd like to see more planted throughout the city."It's something we should embrace. It's kind of San Diego's tree," he says. "You see pictures of LA and they have palm trees. Ours is the Eycalyptus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Detectives are searching for two suspects who shot a 17-year-old in the back in Golden Hill Sunday, according to San Diego Police.The shooting happened on the 2700 block of Treat Street around 9:20 p.m.The teenage boy was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.San Diego Police said the shooting is suspected to be gang-related and detectives are searching for two suspects.The two suspects were described by police as Hispanic men driving a white or silver sedan.Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to gall the San Diego Police gang unit at 619-531-2847 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 671
