CAIRO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Egyptian industry officials vowed closer bilateral economic ties on Sunday with the signing of an industrial cooperation agreement.Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid met with Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong. Both talked about the expansion and improvement of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.Rachid told reporters that he hoped the new agreement would pave the way for more cooperation in different industry sectors including manufacturing of cars components, textiles, petrochemicals, electronics and technology."This agreement includes the process of sharing technology and increasing investment in the industrial sector and training of workers as well as helping Egyptian companies promote their products in the Chinese markets," said the Egyptian minister.The agreement also included the formation of an Egyptian- Chinese task force that takes the responsibility of sharing information and experiments in the industrial sectors and encouraging Egyptian and Chinese firms to establish joint ventures in different areas of cooperation, according to Rachid.Rachid said that Egypt wanted to benefit from the successful Chinese experience in the industrial sector.Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif also met with the Chinese minister. The prime minister said Egypt shows great interest in boosting cooperation with China.The bilateral trade between Egypt and China increased from 3 billion U.S. dollars in 2006 to 6.24 billion dollars in 2008, according to Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Wu Chunhua.By the end of last year, Chinese investment in Egypt exceeded 500 million U.S. dollars. Chinese auto companies such as Chery Automobile and Brilliance Automobile have had assembly lines here in Egypt.Rachid expected that the Egyptian-Chinese cooperation would witness a great milestone in all sectors, particularly the trade and industry relations thanks to exchanges in the economic and political levels.

ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- China and Greece on Saturday clinched a series of deals and agreed to further deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership as Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is paying his three-day official visit to Greece.Wen held talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou after his arrival here earlier Saturday.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years. Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou (R, back) and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (L, back) attend the signing ceremony of deals in Athens, Greece, on Oct. 2, 2010.Wen and Papandreou attended the signing ceremony of 13 deals after their talks, which covered areas concerning cooperation in maritime transportation, loan, telecommunication, export and cultural exchanges.The two countries also issued a joint statement on deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

ATHENS, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Senior Chinese legislator Chen Zhili on Saturday called for the promotion of gender equality through education.Since the Fourth World Conference on Women, society has become more aware that the empowerment of women and the improvement of their status is critical to economic, political and social development, Chen said during a keynote speech at the UNESCO forum on gender equality in Athens.Chen, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said China has witnessed great improvement in the status of women in recent years.With the implementation of the Women Protection Law as well as other national policies on gender equality, the rights of Chinese women in the area of education, work and politics are guaranteed, Chen said.Chen also spoke highly of the efforts made by UNESCO to promote sustainable development through gender equality.During her speech, Chen made several proposals to promote gender equality. The proposals included creating a stronger voice for gender equality that should be heard by all people, especially male decision makers, she said. Women should be encouraged, she said, to gain the spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-reliance.Chen also urged countries around the world to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in policy-making regarding gender equality.
