LONG BEACH (CNS) - The California State University system announced Wednesday that it is planning for an anticipated return primarily to in-person courses starting next fall."While we are currently going through a very difficult surge in the pandemic, there is light at the end of the tunnel with the promising progress on vaccines," CSU Chancellor Timothy P. White said in a statement.He noted that it was critical to provide as much advance notice as possible to students and their families, as the CSU system had done in announcing its moves toward primarily virtual instruction as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.The CSU system, which locally includes CSU San Marcos and San Diego State University, announced in mid-March that its campuses would immediately transition in-person operations to a virtual mode, with the chancellor saying then that "the health and well-being of our students and employees is always a foremost priority."In September, White announced that CSU -- which held primarily virtual courses during the fall term -- would continue with predominantly online instruction for the academic term beginning in January."We are approaching planning for the 2021 fall term with the goal of having the majority of our on-campus experiences returning," said CSU Chancellor-select Joseph I. LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Rapper Nipsey Hussle has died after a shooting near a clothing store he was associated with in Los Angeles, according to a high-ranking law enforcement official with the Los Angeles Police Department.Two other people were injured in the shooting around 3:20 p.m., according to the department.The incident occurred near a clothing store around the area of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.All three victims were transported to a hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead, according to police. The vast majority of Southern California travelers -- 3.6 million or 86 percent of all travelers -- will drive to their destinations, a 5.1 percent increase over last year. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Voters who hate resetting their clocks twice a year took the first step Tuesday to making daylight saving time year-round in California.With nearly 4.5 million ballots counted, Proposition 7 led by more than 62 percent. The measure permits the state Legislature to establish permanent daylight saving time. However, a change in federal law would be required before the initiative can take effect.The time-change issue was fresh on voters' minds when they went to the polls. California and most of the rest of the nation reset clocks last Sunday, falling back on standard time and seeing the day get dark one hour earlier.Democratic Rep. Kansen Chu of San Jose said last month that he sponsored Proposition 7 after his dentist called him to complain about springing forward when clocks are moved up an hour every March. That switch takes away an hour's sleep in the middle of the night as it shifts an hour of sunlight from the morning to the evening.Chu said he investigated the issue further and learned the original reason for implementing daylight saving — to save energy during World War I— no longer seemed to apply to the modern world.Chu said he also came across studies showing an increased risk of car accidents and heart attacks following the spring change when people lose an hour of sleep."It's a public safety measure," Chu said.
