The planet reached the 1 million deaths threshold just days after the United States recorded its 200,000th death linked to the virus — a rate that continues to lead the world. The U.S. also leads all other countries with more than 7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19.With 142,000 fatalities, Brazil is the only other country with more than 100,000 COVID-19 deaths.
