It started out as a way to help her brother, and now, it's become so much more than that. Now one sister's efforts have made an impact far more than she could ever imagine.In their household, twins Sarah and Jacob Greichen are both included and involved. But one day after school a few years ago, Greichen realized outside the walls of their home, it was a different story."My brother got in and he was crying," Greichen said. "And he was saying, 'Mom I have no friends why don't I have any friends.'"Jacob has autism, and exclusion took its toll."He actually stopped talking completely," Greichen recalled. "He regressed, he went from probably a fourth, fifth, sixth-grade level to first-grade level and it was a really hard time for my family."Greichen decided to do something. And at 13 years old, she founded the non-profit Score A Friend, which builds clubs for students with and without intellectual disabilities in schools and communities."Every single kid meets friends through school or though activities and sports," Greichen said. "And Score A Friend is creating those opportunities for everyone. So that they can meet friends and then those friendships can go from school to home."Clubs can be focused on sports or electives, and one club even got the whole school involved with score a friend week."They talk about inclusion," Greichen said. "What unified sports are what person first language is what do you say when you walk up to a person with a disability and what is the right way to act."Now, Score A Friend has gone national, spreading to more than a dozen schools across the country, including at least two colleges."I mean now we have commercials and billboards out which is crazy!" Greichen exclaimed. "I mean, I never would have guessed this from the beginning."But for Greichen, her brother is the true measure of success."Jacob finally started talking again," Greichen said. "He started playing sports again he started talking to other students and he actually had people to sit with at lunch."Greichen sees Score A Friend becoming a movement. INDIANAPOLIS -- A former fertility doctor has surrendered his medical license after being accused of using his own semen to inseminate patients without their consent, now those affected by his practices are pushing for change. Donald Cline gave up his medical license before the medical licensing board of Indiana on Thursday.Cline wasn’t present at the hearing, but several adults who say they’re Cline’s offspring were there to support each other through the process.READ | The children of an Indy fertility doctor who used his own sperm want the act outlawedLiz White gave birth to her son, Matt, in 1982. It wasn’t until 35 years later that she learned her doctor’s sperm was used in the artificial insemination.“I trusted him,” White said. “I trusted everything that he told me. I had no reason and could not even conceptualize that this was a possibility.For her son, Matt, the discovery has been agonizing.‘It’s consumed me,” Matt White said. “There’s a large part of my life that spends many nights thinking and wondering. He lives down the street from me. I can’t get away from it.”He and other former patients and children watched as an attorney for Cline says the retired doctor has “no intention” of re-entering the medical field.Matt White calls the surrender of Cline’s medical license a “slap on the wrist.”“I think that was a good step but it’s minor in comparison to the number of families that he has affected. We find people across the country, all the time. And these people’s lives are turned upside down,” he saidMatt White says he’s tracked down more than three dozen half-siblings with shared DNA on 23andMe, a service that uses DNA to map family trees.There is no law in Indiana that prevents a fertility doctor from using his own sperm to impregnate women without their consent, but those former patients are advocating for a change to ensure no other family has to have the same experience again. The group is pushing for a state law that makes it illegal for doctors like Cline to use their own sperm in fertility treatments without a patient’s consent.“We hope to establish that not only as an ethical issue but a criminal one,” Matt White said.Cline did not attend his hearing on Thursday and the Medical Licensing Board voted that he can never request to have his license reinstated in Indiana. 2363

It is considered one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, but one California man took the game too far.Daniel Lee Rippy, 29, of Livermore, Calif., was sentenced to one-year in federal prison after pleading guilty to making an interstate threat. Federal law enforcement officials say Rippy threatened members of the Ohio State football team during the 2018 game against Michigan.According to the DOJ, Rippy directed death threats toward Ohio State players and then head coach Urban Meyer through Facebook. Rippy also threatened at shooting at Ohio State University. He was originally arrested in December 2019, and was summoned to appear. When he failed to appear, he was arrested again and US Marshals extradited him to Ohio to face charges.“In the middle of Ohio State’s annual rival game with the University of Michigan and with more than 100,000 fans in the stadium, law enforcement suddenly had a potential threat of a shooting,” said U.S. Attorney David M. DeVillers. “Because of Rippy, law enforcement officials at the stadium were placed on high alert and re-allocated resources to investigate the threat. His words are not without consequence, as illustrated by today’s sentence of imprisonment.” 1219

Incredible video captured by researchers at Florida Atlantic University captured the blacktip shark's annual migration off Florida’s southeast coast.FAU researchers refer to the blacktip shark's as the "snowbirds of the sea". The sharks migrate south during the cold months and head up north when the weather, and water, start to warm back up. They leave the north when water temperatures drop below 71 degrees Fahrenheit and start heading south.The video was taken by FAU researchers on February 27, right off MacArthur Park in Singer Island.“Last year, we saw a dramatic decline in the number of blacktip sharks that migrated south. In fact, it was so low that we estimated the population to be about one-third of what we have seen in previous years,” said Kajiura, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and director of the Elasmobranch Research Laboratory in FAU’s Charles E.
