Caterpillar could eliminate nearly 900 jobs in the US and Central America, the company said on Friday.Job cuts will happen at locations in Texas and Panama as part of a restructuring, a spokeswoman said. Employees were notified earlier this year, she said.The heavy equipment manufacturer also said it is "contemplating the closure" of an engine factory in La Grange, Illinois, which is part of its subsidiary Progress Rail, a supplier of railroad and transit products. The company reported in January that quarterly sales grew 18%, its first increase since 2012.Sales in North American grew by 46% driven by selling and leasing machinery for home building, infrastructure and for the oil and gas industries. (KGTV) - For the second time this year, Carlsbad-based airline, Cal Jet, has abruptly canceled all scheduled flights and stopped booking new flights indefinitely. Kelly Skemps was scheduled to fly from McClellan-Palomar airport to Las Vegas on Friday for her brother’s 50th birthday. But Thursday morning she got a call and a text alerting her that her flight had been canceled.“I was shocked,” said Skemps, who admits she was initially excited for the airline to be open.“I thought it was going to be perfect,” she said.Cal Jet bills itself as an easy and competitively-priced flight option from North County to Las Vegas.But this is the second time the small airline has inconvenienced customers by cancelling flights and blocking out their schedule.In February, Cal Jet went dark for nearly two weeks. President George Wozniak said the company they lease the plane from, Elite Air, needed it to fly NCAA basketball players.When they finally resumed operations in March, Wozniak told 10News, “we feel very confident going forward that we have the extra crew and airplanes necessary to fulfill that travel mission for these people.”Cal Jet did not respond to a request for comment after the latest round of cancellations, though a customer service representative attributed the problems to a lack of “aircraft and crew availability.”In an email to customers sent late Thursday, Cal Jet attributed the temporary closure to their efforts to expand to other cities. 1498

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) -- One Marine was killed and six others injured in a rollover during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton Thursday morning. The rollover happened around 9 a.m. Thursday and involved a light armored vehicle. The six Marines injured in the crash were taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered serious. The Marines are from the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, according to officials. The cause of the rollover is under investigation. None of the Marines have been identified. 558

(KGTV) – The Carlsbad Police Department held a community meeting to address a creeper that’s been prowling through neighborhoods.RELATED: Carlsbad Police release sketch of suspected prowler who entered homes on occasionAbout 50 people attended the Thursday night meeting at the Carlsbad Senior Center.Police passed out the sketch of the man they say has been looking through people’s windows and then climbing through the glass.In one case, the prowler climbed into a teenager’s window but ran off when the girl woke up and started screaming.Police say the incidents happened between Sept. 11 and Sept. 16.  In all cases, police say the man went in through an unlocked window on the ground floor. 731

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police arrested a Cape Coral man Sunday morning for taking target practice in his apartment after adjoining neighbors found bullet holes in their bedroom.61-year-old Ivan Bakh is charged with Shooting Into a Dwelling, and Reckless Discharge of Firearm in Public/Private Place.According to Cape Coral Police, neighbors reported being woken up by a loud bang and found a large hole in their headboard, right over their heads.Further investigation also found bullet holes into the opposite wall and in the far wall of the adjacent living room.Police contacted the next door neighbor, Bakh, in the apartment building located in the 3400 block of Skyline Boulevard.  Officers located the room opposite the neighbor's bedroom, which contained a large thick book against the wall with a red circle drawn on it.  The book appeared to be used as a target, and had been penetrated by three rounds.A 9mm casing was located in the hallway between the bathroom and the bedroom of Bakh's residence. Also located inside the home was a safe containing a 9mm Glock. The rounds located inside the magazine of the Glock handgun were a match to the 9mm spent casing located on the ground inside the residence. Bakh was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. 1305
