The threat was made from one student to another at Design 39 (17050 Del Sur Ridge Rd), school district officials told 10News. They did not elaborate on the nature of the threat. Classes remained underway Friday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. but the classroom doors were locked. San Diego Police were called to the scene to investigate the situation. VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) — A man wanted for trying to kidnap young girls in the Los Angeles and Escondido areas is in custody, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department.SDSO says Elijah Lopez, 24, was wanted on suspicion of following and forcibly grabbing a six-year-old girl who was walking with her blind father in Huntington Park, south of downtown Los Angeles, on Tuesday.A wanted flyer was issued bu LAPD and eventually reached SDSO's Valley Center substation.Wednesday, an SDSO deputy was driving back to Valley Center when he noticed a man matching Lopez's description at the intersection of Highway 78 and Broadway, wearing the same clothes detailed in the wanted flyer, the department says.As the deputy detained Lopez, SDSO says an observer flagged the deputy down, claiming Lopez had been following a juvenile, who ran into a nearby grocery store for help."It was near the end of his shift," said Lt. Pat Shannon, the Valley Center Sheriff's Substation's commanding officer. "He still had the mindset to have those observation skills on, thank goodness he did because I'm positive he averted something worse from happening."Escondido Police say they are investigating a case that occurred on Tuesday, in which Lopez was reportedly seen at about 4:30 p.m. in the area of Valley Parkway and Midway Dr. chasing a young woman. The woman entered a store to get away, an EPD spokesperson said. Investigators are working to determine "what his intent was in chasing the victim" and say that additional charges could follow.Lopez has been booked into Los Angeles Police Department on 0,000 bail. 1615

Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving on Thursday.According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them. The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes.This is the first time TPD has utilized this method by using mannequins.Tucson Police said drivers can expect to see the mannequins out again Aug. 21 but the location has yet to be determined.  732

Veterinarians have a warning for pet owners about an ingredient in some foods — including peanut butter — that can be toxic to your pet.It's a sweetener, called xylitol, that's found in different brands of peanut butter, and it can make your pet sick, or even kill them. The ingredient can also cause liver failure."It's kind of horrible to think about because it's common knowledge — everyone gives their dog peanut butter," Laura Lovely said.Lovely said it's devastating to learn her dog Sweetie's favorite snack could send her to the emergency room."Whenever she wants kind of a healthy treat, because it has a lot of protein, and when she takes her medication," Lovely said.It's a food Lovely said she and Sweetie both enjoy."Xylitol is a wonderful low calorie sweetener for you and me but it can be deadly for our dogs," veterinarian Dr. Christopher Byers said.It's not just in peanut butter. Byers said you'll find xylitol in a number of products."Certain brands of peanut butter, toothpaste, certain gums, certain breath mints," Byers said.He said your dog can be exposed to it by accident."One of the more common gums that we encounter in the emergency room is Orbit," Byers said. "Orbit is a great product, but it does contain xylitol."Within a half-hour, he said, your dog's blood sugar will start to plummet."They can be lethargic. They can collapse. They can even have seizures," Byers said.So it's essential for all dog owners to check labels, he said."I think it's awful," Lovely said. "if it's not healthy for dogs, how is it supposed to be healthy for us as well?" Byers said they see xylitol intoxication in dogs several times a week, and that if you see the signs, get your dog to the emergency room as soon as possible. 1791
