(KGTV) - The driver accused of killing a pregnant woman on Mother's Day in Ramona is at the East County Courthouse Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.Prosecutors say Andrew Milonis, 44, was driving under the influence and struck and killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter in May.Milonis is accused of leaving the scene on San Vicente Rd. and hiring a Lyft driver to take him to a bar.Milonis is facing eight felony charges, including murder. 504
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A transgender woman is suing an El Cajon gym over the use of gender-specific locker rooms.“My weight went from 340 pounds to 195 pounds,” Christynne Wood said. She says that weight loss is attributed to the water aerobics classes she has been taking at Crunch Fitness for the last eleven years. Not only did it help Wood shed the pounds, she also shed an old identity.“I lived so many years presenting myself as a male. Because I knew that is what was expected of me, and I didn't want to make others uncomfortable. The whole time, Christynne is inside Christopher going ‘I’m suffocating, please don’t let me die,” Wood said. Wood says she has identified as female since childhood. But she did not begin her transition from male to female until July 2016.Just two months after starting hormone therapy, she says a male gym member began to harass her.“The individual comes over to me, and says something untoward, and make a threatening gesture and walks in my direction,” Wood said. Terrified, Wood says she ran out of the men's locker room and told management. At first, she was led to the upstairs men's room, where there were fewer members than the women's facility. But she claims the harassment continued."I still must transit through the place where the assault took place to get to and from the pool for my workouts, so what have you done for me?"Days later, she brought a letter from her endocrinologist, explaining her transition and asking gym staff to accommodate her in the women's locker room. Last February, she legally changed her name and gender. But Woods says it took another seven months for Crunch to finally allow her to use their women's facilities."I thought I had friends in management that so totally understood me. When that was betrayed, how would you feel?"Wood says continued years of alleged harassment and neglect for her well-being led her to sue Crunch Fitness."It makes me cry that it had to get to this degree,” Wood said. “Nobody wants to sue anyone. Nobody does anything or pays attention until somebody hurts or inconveniences them and then they realize the magnitude and depth of what they’ve done wrong.”But she says this civil case is bigger than Christynne Wood.“I’m getting some form of justice, but it’s not just about me. There’s a whole sisterhood out there is being abused and marginalized. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced late Friday that the US government will extend a federal student loan forbearance on borrowers for an additional month as more businesses are closing due to a surge in coronavirus cases. This means that payments of federal student loans will not be due in January.The decision does not impact private student loans, which have generally still required repayment by Americans during the pandemic.While the federal student loan forbearance is scheduled to end on January 31, President-elect Joe Biden has discussed taking more permanent action on reducing the student loan burden on millions of Americans.Federal student loans were placed on forbearance in March. In August, President Donald Trump directed DeVos to extend the forbearance through the end of 2020. While those who wanted to continue making student loan payments were able to continue doing so, automatic payments of federal student loans stopped early in the pandemic as unemployment levels jumped to record levels.Amid the forbearance period, the federal government was not charging interest on borrowers."The coronavirus pandemic has presented challenges for many students and borrowers, and this temporary pause in payments will help those who have been impacted," said DeVos. "The added time also allows Congress to do its job and determine what measures it believes are necessary and appropriate. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - An El Cajon police officer's encounter with a group spray-painting graffiti ended in remarkable fashion early Wednesday morning.Sgt. Mike Murphy was on patrol around 2 a.m. when he got a radio call reporting people in dark clothing tagging along Heart Drive."Saw three males with dark clothing. Hit them with a spotlight and told them to have a seat, which they all did," said Sgt. Murphy.Two other patrol officers were called to the scene. The three men in their late 20s had spray paint under their nails, with fresh paint on the sidewalk and the wall of a business. Sgt. Murphy decided to take a closer look."I saw messages, not of hate, but of peace and love ... the peace sign and 'BLM.' Just had a discussion. 'You're not trying to say anything mean or hateful. Why did you choose a wall?' I understand the frustration of everything going on. Talked about, if this happened to their house, would they be upset? They apologized, and all agreed the avenue they chose was a wrong one. And they came up with, 'What if we fix this?' I said, 'I'd like to help you with that,'" said Sgt. Murphy.Sgt. Murphy, who says he had enough to make an arrest, decided to let them go and asked them meet at the same location that same evening, where he would help them clean up."Having them arrested, how is that going to help the message they're trying to put out? The vandalism would still be on the wall," said Murphy.At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the three men showed up with paint and rollers. Together with Sgt. Murphy, they painted over the graffiti."These men were true to their word. What better way to show not just how the department treats its citizens, but how the citizens treat our city. We all make mistakes, and sometimes we have to be given the opportunity to come back from a mistake," said Sgt. Murphy.The three men have decided to they will create a plywood art installation. Sgt.
