SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Tuesday the North San Diego Business Chamber honored first responders who've gone above and beyond in their duties protecting the community. One of the recipients was San Diego Police Department K9 Officer Jonathan Wiese, honored for his actions during the active shooter incident at the Chabad of Poway synagogue.Wiese was on his way to meet his family for lunch when he heard the shots fired call and immediately responded to the area.Despite having little information and no back-up, Officer Wiese was able to track the suspect down who then surrendered. "Active shooter is right up there with 'officer down'; the calls don't get more intense than that, when you know someone is actively shooting there's going to be multiple victims, there's going to be a large scene, it's going to be chaotic," said Wiese. Officer Wiese says his 20 years of training kicked in."I tried not to think about the danger, just tried to figure out what I needed to do," said Wiese. "Every single day we have great stories like this, and so I want the public to know this is not unusual, this is our normal," said Chief Craig Carter with the Escondido Police Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after they say a man was stabbed while sitting on a bench at Balboa Park early Sunday morning.The stabbing happened on the 2000 block of Park Boulevard at 12:26 a.m. Police reported that the suspect walked up to the 29-year-old victim and asked him for a cigarette.After telling the suspect he didn’t have one, the victim was stabbed in the neck, according to police.The wound was non-life threatening and the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police say.Police are still looking for the suspect.   The assailant is described as a tanned Asian male wearing a blue jacket and about 5'5" tall. 684

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man is dead and another person was injured after two separate shootings just miles apart early Saturday.The first shooting occurred in the Lincoln Park area before 3:30 a.m. near Euclid and Imperial avenues. A suspect wearing dark clothing reportedly shot at a group of transients, according to San Diego Police.One person was hit by debris from the gunshot and taken to the hospital as a precaution.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodA second shooting occurred about two miles away, an officer patrolling Mountain View heard gunshots around the same time. He arrived to find a man lying on the ground on South 45th Street, near Willy Henderson Sports Complex.The Hispanic man in his 20s to 30s was shot multiple times and died at the scene, police said. His identity has not been released.Police are searching for a white Volkswagon seen in the area by witnesses following the shooting. Police said there is no indication the shooting is gang-related.Police received calls about both shootings around the same time but said there is nothing to suggest the two are connected. 1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Next week, new San Diego Police de-escalation policies will be presented — and likely approved — in response to weeks of demonstrations after George Floyd's death. Danny Murphy is the Deputy Commissioner of Compliance for the Baltimore Police Department, which underwent sweeping reforms following public outrage over the 2015 death of Freddie Gray.“After the Freddie Gray incident, the Department of Justice launched an investigation into the Baltimore Police Department and found a pattern or practice of unconstitutional policing,” Murphy told 10News.RELATED:San Diego Police to implement new de-escalation policyReview board recommends de-escalation reforms to San Diego PoliceThe Baltimore Police Department's new policy requires that the use-of-force not only be reasonable but also necessary and proportional to the situation.
